Had my first porch pirate

Well, very likely my own fault! Big dog always tells me when someone is out front but I was unwell and not able to get up when he sounded the warning. Lost my new kitchen shears to a thieve. Happy they were not at all an expensive item. Most of you know I don't sleep well, I am up all night and sleep during the day.

I was feeling exhausted so decided to take a sleeping pill last night. I live in a short street that dead ends to the elementary school. The day is full of parents taking and dropping off kids and a good deterrent to crime. What I failed to realize school was ending for the summer.

I guess the thieves realized the opportunity and were looking for every chance to grab something. I only wish I had given them hemorrhoid cream since they are such a pain in the butt!!

Have any of you had this problem?

I have not, to date. Sorry this happened to you Blessed.
Retaliation would feel so good BUT they will get you back, so be careful.

yes I've spoken about the theft from my doorstep before on here... a Box of wine which we didn't know was coming that week otherwise we would have been here for it.. but the stupid delivery people left it on the doorstep. The fortunate thing is that we had only just got the Video ring doorbell.. it was in it's infancy, and it captured the thief, in full action.
We gave a copy of the video to the police, they were excited to receive it because it was all new.. the guy who was apparently known to the police, was arrested, taken to court and fined. He was ordered to pay us costs.. but he didn't of course... but we were happy, that our wine was replaced by the company , and that the thief got another thing added to his rap sheet...

I am not happy about it but it has made me realize that it can happen to anyone, anywhere regardless of neighborhood. It could be anyone, a neighbor, a teenager, a homeless person or someone struggling to put food on the table for a family. I just find it funny, if a person would come to me honestly and needed help, I could give it without question. If they rang the doorbell and said they were thirsty and hungry I would have given them something. That said, I would have also let them see the big dog, to make sure the house was safe.

The post office is doing a food drive and I am in the process of gathering goods. Of course, I start with the sensible things, canned meats, veggies, fruits, oatmeal, pastas, sugar, flour, yeast, rice and beans. Then I start to look at things that would be special treats for children. Let's face it when we are old we like special treats, candies, cookies, juices.

Let me know other things I should throw in!!

I've had a few thefts of my Amazon packages. I know that's not the same thing. Amazon replaces stolen packages at least for me with the inexpensive things I've bought. Can't leave anything out for five minutes it seems now.

My neighbor gets alerts whenever he has a delivery, but he was tied up with the kids inside the house & didn't get out immediately. When he did go out, it wasn't there. We are out in the country & are both so far off of the roadway that no one driving down the road could see a package. So he reviewed his garage cameras & was livid with what he watched.

The delivery driver dropped the package off & took a picture showing it was delivered. He then walked around the inside of the attached garage eye-balling what was in there (only cars & kids bikes basically) & while walking back to his truck he picked the package back up & left.

He immediately made copies of the video & contacted Fed Ex along with the local PD. It's amazing at how brazen some people are.

Well, it was an Amazon package but I don't expect them to replace it. I did let them know by email that there is a thief in my area. I would be more upset if it was something expensive. I long for the good old days when they would at least knock or ring the bell.

I would just tell them you didn't receive it like I do. They should will send you a refund. They've done that for me several times. Then I bought something with the refund money.

Actually, they contacted me after I noted I was not happy with the delivery, no one knocked or rang the doorbell. They noted on my account to knock or ring on all my deliveries in future and they are sending out a replacement. I was shocked, it was not their fault at all. I was not asking for a replacement, it was a very inexpensive item. I do order things that are more expensive and I don't want to take the chance that it might be stoln. I just wanted them to note they should ring or knock when they delivered because I am always home. If I am going to be out, I schedule deliveries for days I am always at home.

I'm in the sticks, and a porch pirate would need GPS or a map to find me and swipe stuff off my porch.
One thing I've always wondered about is who pays when stuff gets pirated? Say I have uninsured $300 doodad delivered, and it gets pirated, who takes the hit, me or the delivery company?

I'm surprised this goes on with all the home security available now - they take a big chance stealing what might be a box of Depends. They could even encounter an irritable homeowner who takes things into their own hands.
Another reason I don't buy online.

Yup. It happened to me once. If you ordered it from Amazon contact them and report it. They will send you a replacement, no charge, or at least they used to.

You are very kind to be concerned about this billion dollar company, but Amazon will not go out of business if you ask them to replace the kitchen sheers. They will be fine and in fact, Jeff Bezos will waste profits from sales on really stupid things. He will self-indulge and has been doing that for many years.

The cost of your kitchen sheers is like 1/1,000,000th of a penny to them. It's NOTHING to Amazon. Just replace them.
