Had to have a chat with house cleaner today

Sounds very suspicious @Marie5656! The first thing I thought, "Was this the first time she did this or did she do stuff like this in the past? In other words, did you give her a 'thank you' or extra pay in the past for going beyond what you asked her too?" If not, I would have fired her. Some people have boundary issues, and she may be one of them. You know, "what is yours, is mine." I would not invite her back again.

My parents had a housekeeper one day a week. We all loved her, she was really nice, left the house spotless, and she never went into any drawers -- however little things she did drove my father crazy. Like sort out the pile of change he always left on his dresser into stacks of pennies, dimes, etc. Heh! I think she was just a little OCD which is exactly what you want in a housekeeper!

My mother had her own business and worked full time. So we had a cleaning lady come in once a week. I loved this woman! Her husband would drop her off at our house. I'd be waiting for her at the door. She'd get out of the car at the end of the driveway, and I'd fly out the door, down the driveway, into her arms! She and my mom had a great relationship and a lot of respect for each other.

When I was sick and couldn't go to school, this wonderful woman would look after me and take care of me when my mom was at work. I'll never forget her and how kind and affectionate she was to me. ❤️

Yes, back in parent's day were all good memories or stories about housekeepers. Times have changed, so people learn to be careful as a result of bad experiences.

The only maid/housecleaning I've ever had was when we lived in Turkey.

She came 1-2 days a week, washed the clothes in the bathtub, mopped the floors, beat the rugs, did general cleaning, etc. I paid her $2 a week, two eggs, and all our empty cans. (We always opened the cans from the bottom so that she could put them on her shelves and make her neighbors jealous that she had American canned goods.)

If I ever have maid service, I will never leave money where it can easily be found. I just don't trust that much. I suggest you find a really good hiding spot for your cash or better yet, keep it with you..perhaps in a waist pouch that can be hidden inside your outer garments. It's like having a little child...they are going to do and look what and where you tell them not to. She may have just been curious or she may have been "casing"as @Pepper pondered. In any case she shouldn't have gone in your drawers after you specifically told her not to.

This thread reminded me, after watching a horrendous TV programme where workmen were secretly filmed in people’s homes, on the very rare occasion I am unable to be home if I need work done I always empty my knicker drawer

My daughter said “mum, they probably think you don’t wear any”.... rather that than have my drawers poked into thanks

She has never done such a thing before..at least with going into a private area without me asking. She had gone into the bedroom to vaccum and put clean sheets on the bed. There was no reason for her to access the nightstand. I mean, I had personal stuff in the nightstand drawer. Put it all on top, and onto the bed. I went in to put it all back and reminded her that drawers in nightstand and dresser are off limits. Her facial expression seemed as if she felt it was no big deal
A couple other people here in my building use her, so I am going to mention it to them as well. So they can keep an eye on her. When she comes back next week I am going to discuss it with her again...bedroom drawers off limits.
I am not of a mind to fire her right now..unless it continues. I would want to make sure I have someone else lined up
When I first interviwed her I did say it was mainly for jobs I was unable to do well.....floors, bathroom etc.

Before she only went into the bedroom to vaccum, and this time to change sheets on bed. I will tell her these two tasks are all I want her to do
