First post, 67 years young, had to retire at 65 and not liking it, like to hear from others on handling this retirement stuff,I'm not ready to just stop and get old.

Welcome from Houston! You don't need to stop and get old. Consider a part time job in your field or another career. Why would you retire at 65 if you did not want to?

Hi Terry, welcome to Senior Forums, no need to ‘just stop and get old’, do all the things you didn’t have time for when you worked....

Had a second back surgery, now with chronic pain, body limits me,mind wants to keep going. Do as much as can, gets depressing.hopfully it will get better.

As you get better physically, you will find things you can enjoy and maybe a hobby or volunteering will turn into part time work if you want it. you might enjoy doing the things you did not have time for when working.

Hi Terry, welcome to the forum! Whether you retire or keep working, you 'get old'. Enjoy your retirement, hoping your pain lessens, I know that must be hard.

I had to retire at 62. I hated to do it, but I lost the use of my hands, knees and feet from chronic pain due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Then I had breast cancer. So it was a never ending battle. I miss working, but...no can do. Not even selling on ebay or something, because SS will deduct $1 for every dollar I make that goes over $200 per month. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

So now..I sit here at 65, bored.

Welcome young man to the madhouse!! The main thing is your brain is working. I'm sure quite a few members here live with varying degrees of pain or inconvenient symptoms but I'm sure they will help your quest to delete boredom. Good luck with your aspirations!

Welcome from a cold and frosty Scotland. We retired in our mid 50's and it was the best career move that we ever made. There's so much more to life than work, but ironically, we're busier than ever now. Hopefully you will make a good recovery and have a wider choice of things to do. Meantime can you try something like model making, art, learning a computer language etc...
