Hair cutting at home......

More of a guy question I suppose ? But have any of you ever tried it? Any recommendations for an at home clipper?

No, I'm not too cheap to pay for a cut....It's just getting more & more difficult to get out & around.

I've been cutting my hubby's hair since we dated and were married. I thought it was cut to cut my boyfriends hair, not so cute after 49 years but I'm still doing it. I also cut my own.
To answer your question, this is only the second pair of clippers I've bought in all those years. So many settings and easy to use and clean. It is the Wahl brand.
The only drawback is that they are a bit heavy when cutting my ownclippers (1024x768).jpg hair but I still wouldn't buy any other brand.

Years ago I had a WAHL clipper that I used on my father's hair.

If you look online you will see various kits from $20.00 to $40.00.

IMO it would be difficult to do this yourself without assistance.

I would check with the nearest barber or beauty parlor to see if they will make a house call on the way to work, lunch hour, on the way home every month or so.

Good luck!

I used to cut my son's hair when he was little. He is 59 now and goes to a barber.

My wife cut mine a few times, but then she refused to cut it anymore. She said it is like cutting Brillo.

I agree with Bea, especially since you have arthritis. I cut my own hair, it's just a couple of snips and my arms right away start to get heavy. Do try to get someone to come do it. I'm sure if you contact some agency like Council on Aging or similar agency they may have a volunteer that knows how to cut hair and can come and do it for you. Another option, if you don't mind, is to just let your hair grow into a pony tail and just quickly snip the ends every few months.

Never tried to cut my own hair but as rgp said it is getting harder to get out and around. I've sorta let mine grow out.

I lucked out -- several of my husband's sisters are hairdressers. But this is a bit off-topic, as they're not cutting it at my home.

I cut my husband's hair for many years, when he wore it long when we first met, and after he kept it shorter. Since he keeps it really short now, I use the dog's clipper on him, works just fine. It's the Oster Golden A5, and I use a 1/16" comb attachment on it. To trim his neck I use a small Wahl Peanut clipper. I have to say though, it would be hard for him to do it himself, clipper big and awkward if you have to do back and clip at various angles.

I agree with Aunt Bea, if you can have someone make a house visit once a month or so, that might be the best option. Maybe a nearby senior center would have some advice. Good luck!

My hair grows like a weed, and becomes a bit "unsightly" around the neck line. So, about every two weeks, my wife trims the back of my neck with my small Remington beard trimmer. That takes care of my grooming between barbershop visits.

I use a braun clipper for my hubbys hair cut -- cheaper than going to a barber who charges wow prices 'for what
same as what I do at home for him ,

I cut, trim and dye my own for about 25 years now but its getting harder to maneuver all the moves to accomplish this, geez....
wish I was a contortionist at this point :D

I'm wondering about that part !..But I am a guy , and not too concerned about "grooming" . So if I get this mess cut off.....it should be easier to keep it short ? I hope !!

I've cut my naturally curly hair for many years...also my mom's and hubs. For longer hair I just use the scissors. My hair is very thick. For hubs, the electric trimmer. He gets the buzz cut so he doesn't have to mess with it.

A buzz cut is my eventual goal....
