Rather than over-priced deli ham, you could grate up your leftover ham after a big meal. I freeze a few containers like this for a variety of meals.

Yes you can also use canned hams which are really inexpensive now.
I'm attaching a picture. Next to egg salad sandwiches this is my favorite.

Looks like a good basic recipe to use up any sort of leftover meat.

When times are tough you could use bargain-priced hot dogs or bologna.
