I love pine nuts! They were a big treat when I was a kid. They are expensive. I never thought of where they came from until your post. LOL

I think that the main reason they're so expensive is that they are so difficult to harvest. I know a guy who has a machine that will take pine cones run them through the machine and pump out cleaned nuts at the other end.
