Handicapped sign

I’ve got a disability car parking permit in my car right now from driving my father around but I wouldn’t dream of using it for my own personal use. Even though I’m not disabled I find it appalling that well able people would take up a spot made specifically for those in need. Usually I park on the outside edges of the parking lot and walk.
 

I just don't let handicap stickers and how people use them bother me.

As long as I can do my own thing and walk it's not a problem.

If they have a sticker what can you do about it anyway?

There was a shooting over this kind of thing because a person parked in a handicapped zone and rushed in to get something.

You shouldn't let this kind of stuff give you a sweat. It's like the supermarket. The express checkout. 10 items or less. Guys with a full cart. Signs don't mean a thing and the store can't do anything about it.

It's not worth getting into an argument over it.
 
When I lived in FL I knew a fella that had a handicap placard because he had lost the hearing in one ear, claimed it was service related (even though he had been out of the Air Force for >40 years...), and was given the placard and a monthly disability check. He used it every time he went out and bragged about it.
 

Oh I don’t get upset with the people who take advantage of the disabled parking. I wouldn’t know who they are. All I know is that I wouldn’t use the permit I have for that reason as it goes against my principles

Yeah, I call that the "Me...Me....Me" syndrome. The idea that she's taking a space away from someone who really needs it, doesn't even enter her mind. I know that syndrome well; my mother & brother also have it.

If you're referring to this incident, it started with a handicap space confrontation, but the shooting was due to an assault by the boyfriend:

It's always risky (and stupid) to put your hands on someone. You never know how capable they are as Mr. Thug found out the hard way. Especially when you're trying to show your girlfriend how macho you are. It's no surprise; the thug had a long criminal history for assault & violence; even against police officers. Sooner or later it was bound to happen. And his son will probably learn how NOT to behave
 
I have a handicap license plate on my car and a placard to use when I travel with someone else. Doctor had to sign for me to get it. With my stroke issues it really helps me out.

It went to court. The shooter lost. Death is final. You don't go around carrying a gun and not expecting immunity if you kill someone who is unarmed as a wannabe cop. Convicted of manslaughter will have time to think about the five year old son.

Yes -in Florida. The sheriff's deputies (at least in the area that we were in) would make a swing through the lot checking plates and placards. Even got out of the cruiser to look closely at a placard. Saw him start to write up one car . The only time I've ever seen it.

Up home here in New England, I've never seen a patrol car checking on private parking lots. On the city street handi-cap spots, yes, they do check them.

Maybe in Florida because of the amount of older folks and handi-capped people?
 
It's still a bargain where I live $75.00 plus a $15.00 state surcharge if that's too steep for you could try parking in a fire lane for only $40.00 plus a $15.00 state surcharge.

Parking in fire lanes at the grocery store has become quite fashionable in my area.

I think the shooter was stupid to confront the girlfriend, but it was even more stupid for Mr. Thug to assault him. In a way, they both got what they asked for. But, the shooter is better off than the thug. He'll be released early like all inmates are & Mr. Thug will still be dead.
 
Personally, I just bought a new (to me) car and will almost always park so far out so that another car doesn't park close to me. I am trying hard not to let someone carelessly ding my doors.

Plus, as said earlier, I can still walk just fine and really need the extra exercise that a longer walk to a store provides. But is does gall me to see someone with no obvious disability using those close-in parking spaces. Perhaps there is something about them I don't know. Does mentally handicapped qualify?

Concerning your bridge friend, just chalk it up to their personal aberrant behavior. We mostly all have something that our friends think is weird or quirky. My wife and I have friends like that. It just gives us something to gossip about with each other!
 
I use a walker or a cane and in our Canadian winters,a believe me, I need a handicap plaque.
My doctor signed the form and it is renewable every 5 years. Without it and my walker I
would housebound.
 
In my state, people get handicapped hang tags from their Doctor or can go to the courthouse and ask for them.
When we were in Hawaii at a popular destination we watched a van parked in a handicapped space with a hang tag, load up with able bodied young people, driven by a doctor.
Having been temporarily disabled in the past, I needed the motorized carts to do my shopping. Often we had to take our business elsewhere when people who clearly didn't need them beat me to the carts. Trust me, there is no joy in riding in these things, as they are slow and people won't move so that you can pass. If I can walk, I'll use a regular cart like a walker, only using the motorized
cart when I have to.

I have a hearing problem....Mostly in one ear...But I have hearing aids....My Doctor told me I can get a handicap card....I refused...I can walk and talk.....
