Handwriting

I can no longer write in cursive - it has become so bad I can't even read it. I have to print which is much slower. I just wonder why my handwriting has become so bad.

My handwriting has become much worse over the years too... I do have RA in my hands...but not so bad...but I do thing it's because I use the computer for the majority of the time rather than long hand, that may be the reason.....

Bad handwriting, especially if the letters get smaller at the end of a word can be a sign of Parkinson's disease. I assumed it was just old age until other signs started showing up. Ask your doctor.

It has crossed my mind that too rkunsaw... because my father had PD and died from the effects of it...

It's like the signal from brain to hand just isn't getting through. Here's an excerpt from a recent shopping list. If I gave this to you to do my shopping, what would you bring to me?

Oooh that IS bad...you're right...I can only recognise orange juice , and tomatoes, on there... Has this just started recently, or have you always had fairly poor handwriting?

I made out

salad mix
tomatoes
apples
Canned pumpkin
ground beef
Dont know what this is...soup?
OJ
shred cheese???
olives
????

Correct on those you guessed - it is soup and the last item is canned mushrooms. My typing is also going downhill, I have to edit and re-edit everything I type. That, too, had become gibberish. This is this message originally typed:

Vorect on this toy gessed - it is soupand the last item is caned mushrooms.

I also edit almost every post but that's because of autocorrect and just being in a hurry and not proof reading what I wrote.

Good grief, how did you make that out CC?...I managed apples after staring at it for a long time, but how did you read..the rest?....oooh hang on you're used to Doctors, and dentists handwriting lol

I could read everything but the last one. I've always had neat handwriting, but it is a little worse now that I'm older. A lot of times I just write things down in a hurry, like a shopping list or filling out a check at the supermarket, then my writing gets sloppier. I noticed with my mother that her handwriting seem to get a little bigger with age, and I can understand that because I can hardly read anything anymore without readers on. :magnify:

My handwriting was never that great. My grade school teachers use to complain about it so I did try to make a better effort back then but now it's atrocious. Thankfully I don't have to write things down with a pen and paper that much anymore.

I had very good writing years ago,but then a few years ago my hands started to shake. It's funny because the same thing happened to my Dad and my older sister. I had the Doctor check out a few conditions that could cause this to happen. Everything was good so I guess it's just something that runs in the family.

I have excellent handwriting. We had courses called Penmanship. No ballpoints. A nib and an inkwell.

I noticed my parents and grandparents had beautiful handwriting as well.

I don't think they even teach it in school anymore. Kids print everything. It's a shame.

I do know something about handwriting and Parkinsons.

My wife had Parkinsons and her handwriting became tiny. Apparently that's one of the symptoms.

Debodun - I made out most of your list as it resembles mine.
Had to write a commentary yesterday in long hand and it took forever.
If I weren't so lazy I would get a new printer, then I could write and
print without any problems.

I'm a nurse. When my spine began to act up, I was getting shots in my spine. Much later, when I no longer could walk far, I was placed on disability. Other nurses said they knew something was wrong with me, because my cursive writing had changed(?) Now, unless I take a great deal of effort, I can't read what I wrote. I have to print. So it could be old age, disease, or drugs?
I've hear that cursive writing isn't taught anymore. Anybody know if it's true?
