Happily Retired Last Year!

Hi Everyone - I have just joined this forum. I retired last year and I love every minute of it! My theme has always been "It's Five O'clock Somewhere" and now it is Five O'clock all the time! I live in Ontario, Canada and it was wonderful to be able to enjoy an entire summer outdoors just relaxing. I was greatly surprised that I do not miss work in the slightest. I worked so hard for over 40 years and enjoyed my career so I worried that I might have problems adjusting. However, I had no issues at all and in fact I am astounded at how fast time goes in retirement. I had to get over the guilt of having lazy days if I wanted - heck I deserve it! I look forward to discussing your experiences with the life changing event of retirement with all of you.
Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi and welcome, Suzanne. Welcome from Scotland. Nothing to feel guilty about in retirement. You have earned it.

Welcome, Suzanne. I retired (somewhat) about 18 months ago. Went back on a limited part time basis (from home) and it's a nice mix. Love the freedom and a bit of extra cash is nice too.

HI Suzanne, welcome,I'm Sue in Buffalo,NY I took early retirement 6 1/2yrs ago, love my 'new life',glad to know you are enjoying your retirement too. I look forward to your future posts, enjoy your weekend Sue

Thank you all for your warm welcome! I am enjoying my favourite time of the day - mornings with my coffee and IPAD. No more commuting for 3 hours a day and working 10 hour days. I am grateful for my career and planned my retirement for over ten years. I guess I am still in the honeymoon stage of retirement as I just enjoy my time at home with my husband and my books. Retirement is much more than I expected - I feel like I am truly living my life. Goodbye stress!
Suzanne

Hi Sue, so glad to hear you still love retirement after all those years. I also took early retirement at 62 once I reached my financial goal. It was a difficult decision to retire but it was the right time for me. I spent so much time in my little oasis of my backyard ("my happy place") the last two summers with much time to reflect on life and I am so happy. I tackled long awaited chores like organizing all my closets/storage areas and had my first garage sale in June. But some days I will read a book in one day or sometimes I stay up until the wee hours watching the series Outlander on Netflix (love that show). I tell my husband how did I get so lucky and he replies we worked for it! I am me again!

Wow a welcome from Scotland! I just finished watching Outlander series on Netflix (lots of time now) and I so enjoyed the history. I believe there may be some Scottish background in our family tree - a project I intend to work on this winter.

Hi Suzanne, congratulations on your retirement, been retired around eight years now and I love it!
