Yeah, I know what you mean. The author was just lucky that her friend's mom could and would act as a mother figure. A lot of us--sometimes I think most of us--aren't that lucky. And let's face it: it's absolutely nothing but luck. I've never heard of anyone's intentional search for a mother figure turning out worth a damn. You're either lucky about this or you're not.
