I have had two cards; both pertaining to alcohol; one phone call, and a text message; from 2 boys....can't be bad!
will ring my mum after some more painting....sigh.
happy Mother's Day to you all..I hope somebody else cooks lunch for you!

LOL Ken...thanks very much that's cheered me up.. :D I am on the left of course...the photo was taken on my 50th Birthday

Daughter has just rung from Spain as she does every year, so it's always lovely to get that..

O/H has just announced he's going to do the washing up today as my Mothers' day gift...oh well it's better than nothing :D we won't be going out today for lunch as we normally do on a Sunday because everywhere will be fully booked.

Wish I still had a mum to call...cherish your mums everyone who still have them :)

Thank you kindly Cookie..whenever daughter sends me flowers I always place them under a picture of her and me and one of my favourite grandfurkids(her dogs)..the one in the picture is Stan and he's a miniature labradoodle, and then I send her a photo of them so she can see how they look :D

Thank you SB and Jim for the best wishes for Mothers' day.:thankyou:..O/H has just vac'd the whole house, and he's been very thorough about it too in every nook and cranny ...

Then I cooked a meatball and sausage casserole in a caramelised onion, beef and red wine gravy with Broccoli and Yorkshire puddings ( batter puddings for anyone who doesn't know)...and he's just done all the washing up as well, so it's been a relaxing day for me so far :D for lunch

Sounds yummy, Holly! :)

I did the housework today while hubby started on cutting down a sick tree in our garden. He is the cook in our house but I did some of the prep while he watched rugby. Now he's cooking dinner. A cauliflower, courgette, mushroom, green bean, tomatoes, peppers, chilis, onions, Quorn pieces curry. I always make the rice.

Wish I could have a pint of his excellent home brewed beer but I'm counting calories. :p

Well I don't drink alcohol Annie, ..so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. On the other hand hubs is upstairs doing what he calls his Sunday jobs ( bill paying mainly )...and he will come down shortly and sit with a Glass or 2 of Red wine..and watch formula one...(that'll be the end of Mothers' day for me) lol :D

Just another excuse to rip off people with over priced flowers, chocolates etc.....
Needless to say, we don't bother with these things. We 'celebrated' by power washing the polytunnel and doing a bit of gardening.
The children probably don't even know it's mothers' day.

So as you're not wishing anyone good wishes on the ''Happy Mothers' day'' thread..it might have been better to start another thread discussing your opinion on rip=offs somewhere else and leave this thread to those who are enjoying the day :D

Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent. Although it's often called Mothers' Day it has no connection with the American festival of that name. It was a day in which to visit the 'mother' church.

History of Mothering Sunday

Most Sundays in the year churchgoers in England worship at their nearest parish or 'daughter church'.

Centuries ago it was considered important for people to return to their home or 'mother' church once a year. So each year in the middle of Lent, everyone would visit their 'mother' church - the main church or cathedral of the area.

And most historians think that it was the return to the 'Mother' church which led to the tradition of children, particularly those working as domestic servants, or as apprentices, being given the day off to visit their mother and family.

As they walked along the country lanes, children would pick wild flowers or violets to take to church or give to their mother as a small gift.
