Has anyone been fishing? Tell us about it. Was it fun? Did you catch anything? Did you eat what you caught? Did you bait your own hook? :)

No, the boat was a might larger than that one in the background. I have a friend who does charter work and has a center console similar to the one pictured, and he knows where to find fish. :)
One of these days, I'm going back out after the giant grouper. Caught one once, but, as I got him to the surface, a huge shark came and chomped him. All I had was a head about the size of 2 basketballs and a little gill. (what a time to not have a camera with us).

As grade school kids, during summers we endlessly fished Sacramento area creeks mostly for green sunfish and bullhead catfish. I became an expert at digging for earth worms or catching crayfish which we used tails of for bait, or grasshoppers. As an adult that became a Sierra Nevada backpacker, during my 20s/30s did a lot of cast a bubble with dry flies fishing for our 4 species of trout. Also occasionally rocky shore salt water fishing. About 1980 I increasingly became more a landscape and nature photographer, so in this era despite enjoying the activity, only usually fish when on trips with brother J that is much more the enthusiast and being lazier now more often use a metal lure. The below are 3 rainbow trout I caught this July at a lake in the John Muir Wilderness. Always only fish for meals and greatly enjoy eating trout, especially mature salmonids.

After arriving at the lake at 10k feet elevation, then making camp, it took me less than an hour using a Kastmaster lure to catch 3 fish at 10, 10.5, and 11.5 inches, clean em, and get them cooking in our frying pan.

Wow! Was it a gag? I think those in your picture were. If so that would really be a huge one, bigger than any gag grouper I have caught.

Picture below is of the largest grouper I have ever caught, not a great picture but you can get some idea of its size. It was a goliath grouper (formerly called jewfish), probably 500 to 600 pounds. Had to release her, keeping them was not legal then. Took her a few minutes, but she perked up and swam away.

As a kid, my family would go crabbing on the Texas coast. Grew up, married a Midwest city boy, moved to the Gulf coast. Suggested to him one Sunday that we go crabbing. He had never heard of it. When I explained how it was done (chicken neck on a string), he thought I was leading him on a snipe hunt. He went along with it, though, and was shocked at how many we caught. The young kiddos loved it!

Later in life, I had a friend who was a charter boat captain (40 ft Hatteras, if memory serves). I was invited many times to go out fishing (again, Gulf of Mexico/America). Once, we were probably about 30 miles out. Something hit my line and it took 15-20 minutes to drag it in. The fun part of ocean fishing is you never know what's on the other end of the line. It was a shark, 4 ft long (weight unknown). When it hit the deck and was thrashing around, I ditched the line and quickly climbed up onto the flying bridge, leaving the men on the boat to hit it over the head with a bat.

When we made it back to the dock, it was cut up and we had a fish fry. Yum! That was the largest fish caught on that boat that summer.

Most fishing has been done in creeks/rivers/lakes, though. Trout and salmon. One year, my hubbie and I took a camping trip to Yellowstone, etc. We accidentally ended up in a campground on the Snake River. I was so excited. I started fishing and couldn't figure out why there wasn't a single bite. Asked him what were those lures we were using (I always used worms, grasshoppers, etc.). He said they were for...bass.

WHAT??? I didn't think bass were in that river, too high, too cold. I asked him, "We came all this way and all you brought were lures for BASS?" Yep. I was so angry, I tossed the rod into the back of the truck and said, "I'm done!" I was so angry, lol.

Now, there is a creek in my backyard from which I have over the years caught brown/speckled/rainbow trout. Been here two years now, have tried a few times with no luck. Now it may be too late in the summer for that.

My late husband was an ardent bass fisherman. He could sit for hours on his bass boat and annoy the fish. Me, I'd rather be poked in the eye with a hot fish hook.

I had his funeral/memorial service at his favorite fish camp. After the "party", we all went out on the lake in boats and scattered his ashes at his favorite spot. As far as I know, he's still out there annoying the fishes.

I don’t fish but my husband does as you already know Dennis. His favourite fish to catch are sea trout but he likes mackerel also.
He baits his own fishing lines usually with store bought worms from Canadian Tire.

This fish , the huge one, he caught with his neighbour. I think it’s some type of catfish. He didn’t keep it.

I went back and saw the Sacramento River mentioned a few times, is there by chance a bird sanctuary in the middle of that river someplace? It's in one of the rivers in that area. I ask because my Grandfather prior to his death was the caretaker of that sanctuary.
Yes...https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacramento_River_National_Wildlife_Refuge
