Has anyone eaten Purslane?

This just happened to show up on my Facebook page. Purslane is a weed that we have in abundance. I checked it out and it is suppose to be very good for you. They say it has a lemony flavor and is good in a salad. All these years I've tried everything to kill it. It is easy to pull out but it drives me crazy. Now I am going to eat it. There's more than one way to skin a cat.purslane.jpg Has anyone tried it?

I tried it years ago in my Euell Gibbons foraging/Hippie daze, lol.

It was ok, not too impressive as I remember.

Give it a try as part of a salad but be careful where you harvest it, stay away from driveways, roadsides, manicured lawns that are chemically treated, etc... for fear of lead contamination from cars or other chemicals.

I'd try it as garnish on 2" thick barbequed steak. Not a big fan of "rabbit food"

Good advice, thanks.

I have tried harvesting some of the wild edibles that we think of as weeds; but I have not tried purslane. I have seen it before; but I haven’t seen any around in my yard.
We do have dandelions, green plantain (not related to bananas), violets, and clovers; I have used all of those in either green smoothies, in salads or cooked with othered sautéed veggies.
I think that wild green plants have a lot more nutrition, but we are so accustomed to thinking that all of our food needs to come out of a grocery store, that picking weeds out in the back yard seems like a strange thing to do.
Here is a great video by Sergei Boutenko, and he shows us several common weeds/plants that grow almost everywhere and are not only safe to eat; but very healthy.

My Granny used it in a lot of her recipes, along with Garden Sorrel...sometimes as ingredient and sometimes as flavoring. Its great cooked. Never tried it raw.
