In case anyone doesn`t know what that is,it`s when a patient has been deemed to have no brain activity and are being taken to the operating room for organ removal for transplant. Hospital staff and friends and family members of the donor line up along the hallways to honor the donor and their family.

We will be attending an Honor Walk tonight. Our friends, the Buttons(some of you may remember Thanksgiving year before last,I somehow became Guest of Honor at the Buttons Thanksgiving dinner)Benjamin Button in fact.

This past Saturday,Ben Jr.(who is and always has been known as "Moose")was involved in a horrible crash in a Motocross race he was participating in. He never regained conciousness. 14 years old and the brightest, most beautiful child you could ever meet.My heart is shattered-for him,his parents and sister, all of his grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. I know them all and you could never meet a more loving, fun, generous family.

The outpouring of love and support for this family has been unbelievable. Tuesday night, over 200 people came to their house and held a candlelight vigil. Mind you,the Buttons have only lived in this state for two years. The number of friends they have amassed in that time is unbelievable.

Our two daughters in California will arrive this morning-our son in law and granddaughter came on Tuesday(Ben and my son in law have been best friends for many years)

Please keep this family in your thoughts as they go through this unimaginable horror.

I`ve kind of dropped off the radar since I posted this thread. Sorry.
The Honor Walk was definitely the hardest, yet at the same time most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life.Rhere were over 300 people who participated.Friends, family, nurses, doctors, many other staff people.Police officers,Life Flight crews,EMTs, Even those people who see life and death every day were barely able to keep it together-actually some couldn`t.

Afterwards,we went to the family home, where we pretty much had been for the past two days before(Dad and Mom wanted as many people with them as possible) and Dad wanted to send Moose off with a spectacular fireworks show. He had purchased $5,000 worth of fireworks that day and set them off. Most of the neighborhood knew but I did hear one woman scream to STOP! I knew the police would come and sure enough they did. But they turned out to be two officers that attended the Honor Walk so they stood by and said *go for it*.
I checked the local police scanner page and sure enough, people were asking what was going on with all the fireworks. When someone (not me) explained, every single commented said *go for it* as well-one lady said I can just have an extra cup of coffee in the morning.

But nothing will ever make me forget that poor baby lying in that bed, hooked up to all those machines, looking perfect but only the machines keeping him breathing. No parent should ever have to experience that.

You got my eyes runny.... I have run many calls that you knew you were trying to save an organ donor. I have transported 3 in my career to another hospital and walked them into surgery...

One of those tugs of the heart which warms as much as breaks it. The fireworks made me think of a Ravager’s funeral from the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
