Has anyone had oral thrush?

I've been so uncomfortable, I have sores on my tongue, my whole mouth burns and aches right into my throat. First I tried corsodyl, warm salt rinses, sensodyne and these brought relief but no cure.

The doctor has now given me Nystatin and another medication which is a tablet I dissolve before rinsing with it. I have begun within two days to get relief from the unpleasant symptoms. The ulcer especially is just horrible, I can hardly eat!

I never had this before and I wonder what caused it. I take great care of my teeth and mouth hygiene. I think I did bite my tongue which caused the ulcer. But this is taking ages to heal and is causing pain throughout my mother and throat.

Sorry you're having this issue! Issues with your mouth makes eating difficult and an unpleasant chore rather than a pleasurable experience as it should be.

Are you on any inhalers for asthma or COPD? Those are known to cause Thrush if you don't rinse your mouth thoroughly after you use the inhaler. I'm not sure what other causes there might be.

I got oral thrush after taking antibiotics. I’ve lost count of how many doctors and dentists I went to trying to get it healed. Eventually an ENT had me use a specially made rinse and steroid dental paste and that cured it. However, by that time I had so much damage that, even years later, I still have major problems. Bear in mind that I have immune deficiencies and I don’t heal well.

Most people completely heal within two weeks and I feel like you will too. It’s a very miserable thing to have to go through. Get well soon!

No, none. I don't know how I got this.

You poor thing, that was awful. The doctor has got me a steroid rinse and antifungal drops. I am glad to say things are definitely improving. It has been miserable especially at night when my whole mouth has been burning and aching. Eating has been nasty on that tongue ulcer, which hurts less now.

By the way I have not been on antibiotics recently, I don't smoke, I don't eat spicy or hot foods and I drink little alcohol.

Yes, I did. When I was hospitalized last year, I got pneumonia and was given an inhaler to use. That’s how I got Thrush. The doctor gave me Clotrimazole. In two days it was gone, but I kept using the lozenges for five days. After that, whenever I used the inhaler, I rinsed using Peroxide and it never returned.

But, you are correct. It’s terrible to have and makes everything taste bad.

I tend to be better during the day but at night the aching comes back. It's so miserable but I am improving.
