Has anyone had oral thrush?

I've been so uncomfortable, I have sores on my tongue, my whole mouth burns and aches right into my throat. First I tried corsodyl, warm salt rinses, sensodyne and these brought relief but no cure.

The doctor has now given me Nystatin and another medication which is a tablet I dissolve before rinsing with it. I have begun within two days to get relief from the unpleasant symptoms. The ulcer especially is just horrible, I can hardly eat!

I never had this before and I wonder what caused it. I take great care of my teeth and mouth hygiene. I think I did bite my tongue which caused the ulcer. But this is taking ages to heal and is causing pain throughout my mother and throat.

Sorry you're having this issue! Issues with your mouth makes eating difficult and an unpleasant chore rather than a pleasurable experience as it should be.

Are you on any inhalers for asthma or COPD? Those are known to cause Thrush if you don't rinse your mouth thoroughly after you use the inhaler. I'm not sure what other causes there might be.

I got oral thrush after taking antibiotics. I’ve lost count of how many doctors and dentists I went to trying to get it healed. Eventually an ENT had me use a specially made rinse and steroid dental paste and that cured it. However, by that time I had so much damage that, even years later, I still have major problems. Bear in mind that I have immune deficiencies and I don’t heal well.

Most people completely heal within two weeks and I feel like you will too. It’s a very miserable thing to have to go through. Get well soon!

No, none. I don't know how I got this.

You poor thing, that was awful. The doctor has got me a steroid rinse and antifungal drops. I am glad to say things are definitely improving. It has been miserable especially at night when my whole mouth has been burning and aching. Eating has been nasty on that tongue ulcer, which hurts less now.

By the way I have not been on antibiotics recently, I don't smoke, I don't eat spicy or hot foods and I drink little alcohol.

Yes, I did. When I was hospitalized last year, I got pneumonia and was given an inhaler to use. That’s how I got Thrush. The doctor gave me Clotrimazole. In two days it was gone, but I kept using the lozenges for five days. After that, whenever I used the inhaler, I rinsed using Peroxide and it never returned.

But, you are correct. It’s terrible to have and makes everything taste bad.

Do you use a cpap? Do you get a new toothbrush when it's recommended? Do you have dentures? Do you use inhalers?

Not sure if it is the same, but when I was younger I would get cold sores inside my mouth and especially on my tongue that were so bad I could barely speak, never mind the pain of eating. God forbid I would accidentally bite my tongue. A sore would pop up a day later. I tried brushing with peroxide but it didn't help.

I went to a specialist who told me that my mouth was a reflection of my stomach. He recommended Acidophilus, which is taken orally and promotes the good bacteria within one's stomach. It worked for me. Maybe try treating it from the inside out with a Probiotic?

Oral thrush is basically a yeast infection in the mouth. I get it a lot because of my inhaler meds for my COPD so I'm on a permanent regimen twice a day. When it gets bad I get sores in my mouth and little yeasty pockets on the edges of my lips. And something I normally eat like spaghetti sauce or ranch dressing will burn my mouth so bad I can't eat it. There are several causes. Like if you have a cpap and don't keep the equipment clean it can create the bacteria. Also changing oxygen tubings and tubings for nebulizer machines when need be. Probiotic does help with it though. I take it for a few days til the stuff settles down along with my Nystatin. :)

so so painful. there is a prescription paste called Triamcinolone dental paste that can be applied to a painful sore. In a pinch I have got relief from Orajel which helps teething babies. I get it from using an asthma inhaler. Doc usually prescribes Nystatin swish and swallow and that usually does the trick after one or two days.

I also use an oral mouth rinse for pain from Orajel in between rounds of Nystatin to help ease the pain and irritation. But the stuff burns like a mother so I just put a little in the bottom of the cup to line it and then fill the rest with water and rinse with it til the cup is empty. I do that a couple times a day too. It's the only thing I've found that helps with the thrush besides the Nystatin.
