Has anyone here taken or are still taking theophylline?

It was just prescribed for my emphezyma and the side effects seem scary…

It's been discontinued here in the UK...

Although theophylline works well for some people, it’s not suitable for everyone.
For example, it may not suit you if:

  • you’re older because the medicine takes longer to clear from your blood so may not be at a safe level
  • you’re a child unless prescribed under specialist care
  • you have other health conditions including high blood pressure, heart problems, stomach ulcers, liver problems, or alcohol addiction
  • you take other medicines including antibiotics, betablockers, oral contraceptives, some vaccines, and anaesthetics. Even after you’ve started theophylline, remember to tell your GP, dentist, or pharmacist you’re taking it, because it could affect what they can prescribe.

Is the prescriber going to be available,
for you to call, over this weekend,
if you wonder if you're having any bad reactions during that time?

Sometimes it's worth trying something, if you're only going to be taking it for a short time, or as a test, to see if it does agree with you.
If I do it, I try to time it, so there's someone available. Perhaps even your daughter, to check on you.

I am not familiar with that specific medication.

And this is all, just my ideas. Nothing for anyone else to follow.
Could you possibly wait and discuss your concerns with the prescriber?
Again, it's just an idea. I don't know anything specific.

Thank you for your response..new young doctor…she is trying her best…guess I am always skeptical of any new meds as I take so little…discontinued in the UK is worrisome.

Please remember that just because your Doctor prescribes it, it doesn't mean that it's good for YOU... they tend to work theoretically nowadays... ''this item works on paper so we'll try that, ''...

You know your body, you know if something doesn't feel right.. and you know to ask questions of the doctor, and ask for something different...

@Snow74
Would you like to share any update with us,
on how your weekend with the new med. has gone, if you decided to try a start on it?
You hadn't said if you were more apprehensive about short term reactions or longer term ones.
