Has anyone profited from investing in digital currency

Could it be that bitcoin is spoof to get people to invest into digital currency with cash to stimulate the economy? I have read where investors have lost funds due to negligence and debauchery but how do you make profit on such a volutal market?

I have bought bitcoin as means for spending but I see no redeeming factors for bitcoin exchange besides discreteness.

I bought and sold "dogecoin" several times and maybe maybe a few hundred dollars. It wasn't worth the effort.
 
Don't know anything about bitcoins or digital currency. There are all kinds of long definitions, I don't understand. I forgot the economist, who said if you can't describe the venture, you're investing in, in five words; you're going to lose money.
 

During the past 15 years I have made about 80k from investing in crypto but only because my son is the brains behind it. I have never invested more than 5k because there’s a potential to lose it.
