Has anyone sold their home to an 'as is' buyer company?

I am looking for pros/cons or any issues with just selling your house to someone, or a company, that will buy your house 'as is'. I realize that it may mean selling for a good 30% below market. Any other issues, concerns, things to look for if I went this route?

You can sell your house "as-is" to anyone. You offer it as-is and they decide whether they want to buy it or not.

I sold my last house that way. I had neither the time or energy to fix things. I mean, it wasn't in bad shape, it just needed some freshening up and things were getting old. I made it very clear that what they saw was what they got. I accepted an offer over asking price and we closed quickly.

The Spousal Equivalent sold his last house also as-is. He offered a $1,000 painting allowance and the house was snapped up. Why do the painting yourself and replace the carpeting, etc? Chances are the buyer isn't going to like your taste in colors or carpeting and will just replace it anyway.

My mother was getting along in years about 84 and she'd already slipped into gentle dementia so we happen to advertise on a free website about anybody wanting to buy a three bedroom house.

Had four people come to us and my mother had paid $75,000 for the place and our best offer was $76,000. One of the ceilings had collapsed in and basically we left them a garage full of stuff and a lot of the furniture.

They didn't care they said they would just dump it out into a dumpster. They flip the house and later sold it for $140,000. I suspect they had to put in about $20,000 to bring it up to code.

It depends on the market. We didn't use one of the companies you've described but we sold through a realtor "as is" after a hurricane had downed a 2-story tree and blown 21 roof tiles off our house. We happened to be in a seller's market and it sold within 5 days. FYI this was at the top of the "real estate bubble" in South Florida when all the bogus mortgages were taking place.

Funny, the buyers wanted to buy our furniture. I priced it out on the cheap. They then reneged and said they wouldn't buy it unless we dug up the tree and fixed the roof tiles. We donated our furniture to charity.
