Has it cooled off?

I haven't seen any news headlines about the beastly heat wave in the western half of the country for about the last week or so, so I assume things have gone back to normal, or at least closer to normal. I hope that's true, I can just imagine the suffering of people who are used to summer temperatures in the 70's and 80's suddenly getting well up into the 100's, many of them with no air conditioning!

Here, it's hot and humid as usual, but we get that every summer. And by hot, I mean temps around 90, not in the 100's, thank God. But we do have a lot of humidity, which I hate. Heading for the pool today.

Many portions of the West are still under heat alerts and advisories. Death Valley hit 130°F (54.4°C) Friday, 127° Sat & Sun, and is supposed to top out at 125° today. Las Vegas and areas of Utah were 117° over the weekend.

The northwest is a little warmer than usual, but out of triple digits.

Southern California highs are forecast to be in the low to mid 90s with low humidity for the next 10 days. Beaches will top out in the low 70s, the desert (Palm Springs area) will be roughly 110°.

So a little warmer than usual, but not oppressively so - except for the desert where summer temps are always oppressive.

Still very hot 90 to 103, fires in Utah, fires in California, tons of smoke in the salt lake valleys so even if it were cooler we still can’t breathe outside. Can’t really see the sky just smoke, smoke, smoke.

We've had a very Wet Summer, so far....the rainfall amounts for the year are almost a foot above normal. We've had a nice, and very welcome cold front come through over this past weekend...dropping daytime highs into the 70's....enough such that we've been able to open the windows and air out the house. However, it's raining again today, with more on the way for most of this next week.

We've had more than enough rain this year to fill the reservoirs in the western states....if there was some way to get it to them.

We’ve had a wet summer so far also. The night before we were having dessert at a local friends house who said the season was very wet. We didn’t however get any excessive heat. In fact , that entire week the temperature here was 13 to 17 degrees, very windy and cloudy. Today it’s sunny and 19 degrees.

I worry about life in the excessive heat. There is much suffering. 😥

Today's paper had an article about tourists actually visiting Death Valley, where it is 132 degrees. They did this on purpose! Apparently there are people who make a hobby out of visiting hot places. (Thermophiles? Is there a word for it?)

One lady broke an egg on the sidewalk to see if it would fry, but they made her clean it up just as the white part was beginning to crisp.

I can imagine a car even running for very long in 132 and I thought Nevada was 117 the other day. Not sure of the temps in Arizona but I bet it’s hot hot there as well. I want to go see my daughter after we move but the hot weather worries me. Too hot to travel in.

you must live in eastern Canada, we've not had rain in forever it seems. Lytton once again is being bombarded with the heat.

Well, from 113 yesterday to an expected 111 today and 105 tomorrow, I guess you could say it's cooling off.

To top it off, yesterday afternoon the pump died on our cooler. Got a new one today (and an extra one) and the clerk at the store said lots of people were having the same issue. Something about after it goes over 100 it can't keep up and burns out.

Have been to Death Valley during the summer, and It was surprisingly tolerable and really pretty. (was in the 120's)
We drove around the area, and I remember seeing people riding bikes thru the valley.

one of their hotels :

It has rained somewhere in the Houston area for I think about twenty straight days keeping the temp cooler.

20 days ..? .. more like 60! Every time I get ready to take my dog walking I have to check and see if I need a raincoat.
But I'm not complaining - the cooler temps are great!
