Before my first son was born we acquired a rocking chair. I'm now pretty sure I remember where we bought it.
It was fine, but somehow it was never quite as good as the older ones our own parents had. Something about the fit: from the butt to the lower back to the elbow and arm support to the balance and rocking action. Sadly those really comfortable older chairs never passed to me because I'd have loved to give one to my son and DIL who had a baby almost 2 years ago now.
They didn't even need pads, they fit so well. Padding probably would have thrown off the balance by propping one just a little too high. They'd been made locally in furniture factories before so much manufacturing went South for cheaper labor and new more-automated shops and then overseas for even lower costs.
Quantity over quality, it stinks.
