Has this ever happened to you?

It annoys me but it annoys me, even more, when they try to make excuses or apologize for being in the express lane.

Yes, but sometimes the cashier tells the person to go ahead and come thru their lane.

I've had that happen a few times. The cashier has no one in their lane, so they tell you to come to express .... then along comes someone half way thru, with a few items, and they give you the evil eye!

I have to agree with cdestroyer. So somebody has 14 items. Shoot them at sunrise. BUT the people I ALWAYS get behind are:
1. The Coupon Lady She has at least one crumpled up, expired and out of date coupon for everything she buys. Of course, none of these internet coupons scan, so the clerk has to enter a 600 digit number, which does not work.
2. The Check User. This person is trying to use an out of state check, doesn't have any ID, doesn't have a Grocery Store card,
3. The Change Purse User. This person has little pockets in her purse, with change in them. To get the correct change from each one of these hidden pockets takes days. And when it comes to getting the last penny, the cent pocket can't be found, so EVERYTHING has to come out of the purse.
4. " I want to see the manager.". This person wants to see the manager, but won't say why. The manager is in Nome, Alaska and is on his way to the check out. So we have to wait.

It's happened to me quite a few times and that's why I order my groceries on line. I can have them delivered or I can pick them up at the store, where an employee brings them out and puts them in my car. I've never had a problem with doing it this way and I will continue doing it this way. It takes less time and much less trouble.

I've only found a few but I like the express lanes with CASH ONLY!! I get so sick of peole buying say, 5 bucks worth of stuff, waiting until they get the exact amount from the cashier BEFORE fumbling in their purse or pocket for their checkbook - -or- -the old people like myself, who can't master the credit card slot and the cashier has to turn the gadget around and help them enter whatever they're entering. I feel like giving them the $5.00 just to get the line moving.

Once in awhile, I do use a check (not in the fast lane) and I stop in an aisle, before getting in line, make out the check, sign it, stick my license (for an I.D. in my shirt pocket) and just fill in the amount when I get it from the cashier. Simple and quick. I can fill out the amount quicker than some people can find their checkbooks. OK rant over.:D

The mystery for me is. How do these people always manage to get to the check out before me? Lately it's the use of the EBT card then fumbling for cash to pay for the items that don't qualify. Of course the checker has to separate those items then ring them up separately.

It's not a big issue but why offer the option at all if you are not willing to honor/enforce it.

Maybe just turn the 10 items or less light on during peak hours.

Over here we're more liberal. It's 15 items or less. That's when being bad in math is a good thing. :peace:

I have never seen it being an issue, especially when there are only three express lanes open and only one regular one.

No one cares if someone has maybe five items over the limit. Anyone who wants to count that and get mad has an more of an OCD issue than anything else. . :playful:

Not an express checkout thing, but at Walmart I have seen a sign at beginning of lane that basically says the cashier is underage and cannot check out alcohol. I asked once of people have complained and the cashier has said once or twice. The sign is easily seen before you enter the line, and there are ALWAYS other checkouts open.
