Has your bank locked you out?

It’s a different world. 🤷‍♀️

I was in one of our large state hospitals last week and had to go through a security checkpoint/metal detector to get in.

I don’t like it but I understand and accept it if it makes the people that work in such places feel safer.

I’m amazed that more banks, airline ticket counters, customer service counters, do not have their employees behind glass enclosures.

I do think US Bank is doing this at all their locations.

In the Surgical and Trauma ICU, entrance doors were locked and there was a camera. Employees had the code to get in. Visitors had to buzz the unit clerk, who asked why they were there, etc., before letting them in. This was in San Antonio, TX during the height of gang shootings and such and I was glad the unit was secured. The ER had the walk-through detectors and a police officer.

It is interesting that financial institutions have signs at the door that say to remove hats, sunglasses, hoodies, etc., but don't mention masks. It makes me laugh every time I go in there.

one day at work they got a call from a guy threatening to come shoot the place up. they put the entire building on lockdown and we were told to go hide til it was over.
The next-to-last place I worked, we shared the floor with a worker's comp office. There was always someone who was on their way to shoot the place up because their benefits has been denied or cut off.

I got quite used to seeing a policeman stationed at the front door.

I was a teller in a small town Ohio bank for many years and I don't live far from Berea now. This all seems shockingly close. I worried sometimes about being shut in the vault but never about being shot.

How completely evil and unnecessary! He left plenty of other eye witnesses and bank employees are well trained to give the robber whatever they want. Banks are FDIC insured, so I'm sure they weren't refusing his orders or fighting him.
According to what I read, he immediately started shooting the two victims when he entered the bank and then proceeded to clean out the drawers. I don't know what the purpose of that would have been unless he thought they were reaching for an emergency button. We'll know more as time goes by. Berea is a nice little college town. My husband and I used to stay at their college hotel for getaways sometimes. The rooms were nice and the food was good.

For a few years our banks had interior ATMs that were accessible after hours by using your bank card. They had to discontinue them because the street people were using them to sleep in. It wasn’t safe for customers to use them. There are still exterior ATMs that I won’t use at night.

Perhaps the murders were the sole purpose and the robbery was just a token coverup.
You never know what a warped mind thinks. What would be the purpose of killing them though unless he had a history with them. Who knows? He was one of those stupid crooks though. He basically gave himself away by things he posted on Facebook. That's how they found what to look for in addition to what they had on camera. I guess he'd mentioned the money on FB. There are a lot of not so bright crooks who give themselves away by things they post on FB.

We still have those and it creeps me out when someone enters, instead of waiting outside, while I’m in the middle of a transaction.

So far..my bank has regular business hours, with the doors open.
There is an ATM machine in the bank lobby where the tellers are, past the second doors.
When they close there is a card reader machine outside that opens the first set of doors and an ATM machine.
You can not open the second set of doors when they are closed for the day.
There is another ATM machine ouside if you want to stand out there.
They also have the drive through during regular business hours.

I always have someone go with me so I feel fairly safe. There are cameras all around the bank.

I have my grocery's delivered, items I want I have shipped. I pay all online.
I would not even go to the bank if I did not need to pay the lawn boys.
I like to keep a little cash around also.

Even exterior ATM's are creepy. I rarely use them, but when I do, I have eyes in the back of my head. I'm usually in a car when I go to an ATM and I drive my car as close as I can to the machine so no one can get between me and the machine.

I live in Kentucky now, but when I lived in Indiana prior to 2020, we had banks whose tellers stands were out in the lobby and no protection whatsoever around them. They were little individual stands. I don't know who came up with that bright idea, but I feared for the safety of the tellers. I haven't noticed that down here in Kentucky. Having said that, I don't care what state I'm in, call me paranoid or not, but I'm always on my guard any time I have to go in a bankls lobby. I don't go in any more than I have to.
I have had a personal account with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which has about one thousand local branches across Canada, for over 20 years. I have not been in my "home branch " in at least 5 years. I do everything by electronic means. In Canada, banks must have branches in all parts of the country in order to be able to call them selves a "bank". Smaller local credit unions do exist, but they are limited in what services they can offer to the public. JIMB>

Most of my banking is online but there are a few occasions that require me to go into the bank.

I only go in the bank when there are papers that require a signature. I only go to the drive thru on those rare occasions that a deposit or cash withdrawal are needed. I don't use ATM's at all nor do I use a debit card. We also live in a small town but we split our banking business with several banks. We like to patronize the locals and don't want anyone to know all our personal business details.
