Have a Cat, Dog, or Bird You Don't Want? Donate Them To A Zoo, To Feed Predators.

You know, I read this and I'm still shocked.

No. No. And when I say No, I mean No. Never. No.

WTF?!?

I get it. Nature and all that. I watched a documentary about an owl family recently, and the Owls were great. Mummy and Daddy Owls would be food home every evening. And when I say "food", it was mice. And I like Owls. And I get it. But I couldn't watch the whole thing.

I eat chicken. I know what a chicken is. I understand it's been slaughtered for me. I like beef, and I know that comes from Cows. I truly understand. But I'm not giving up pets. Or for that matter, any animals. No.

They should donate a predator species that's causing problems somewhere like some of the snakes in the Florida Everglades although a predator of equal lethality might not be good for the zoo residents.

Since you can't feed an animal that has been euthanized by a vet to another animal, you don't need to use much of an imagination to figure out what they mean by the following stated in the article: "gently euthanized by trained staff " .

This is beyond disgusting to even think about asking for a pet no matter what it may be. It's sad that there are people who are willing to do this. Don't the zoo's have the money to buy food through legitimate suppliers?

This is another article from an ex-Zookeeper, Darrell Sawczuk: Ex-Zookeeper On ‘Widespread’ Practice Of Donating Unwanted Pets To Predators

According to Mr. Sawczuk, “This is just one of many unethical practices which are commonplace within the zoo industry,” he said. “I would even go as far to say it is widespread. They just like to keep these things very quiet in a bid to protect their profits.”

I guess it's all in how it's presented.

What qualifies as a pet?
pet, any animal kept by human beings.

The media Zoo story many not OK with that.

The bible story of God's Zoo [The Arc] where animals kept by Noah not euthanized were used to feed other animals is OK.
