Have You Been Around Any Bad Drivers Lately?

I have. Yesterday I was driving down the road, 3 lanes going in my direction and I was in the left lane. The light turned red up ahead and cars were stopping for the light, I was behind one white car. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, that car starts to drive through the intersection on the red light. It startled me, and I quickly looked to see if traffic was coming in the other direction and possibly crash into that car. Nothing happened thankfully, and the light turned green for us when the white car was completely passed the intersection.

Around a week ago, I was driving down a road with two lanes, both left turns only, you couldn't go any further straight ahead. Across the street there was a bike path and a bicyclist waiting for the light to turn green so he could cross the street. No right turn was allowed, as it was an exit ramp off of a higher speed avenue....one way.

Well, I'm waiting in the left lane to make a left turn at the red light, and a biker was waiting to cross over also in my direction. A car pulls up behind me, swerves quickly into the lane to my right, and starts to make a right turn onto that exit ramp. I blew my horn to warn him, but he made the right quickly, quickly made a U-turn around the pedestrian triangle in the middle of the road, and zoomed around in the direction I had intended to go once the light changed. The biker looked at me and we both shook our heads at what just happened. If a car was coming off that exit, there would have been a collision.

Oddly enough, as soon as the light turned green and I proceeded to make my left turn, another car made an illegal right turn on that corner. I have no idea what happened to him, he didn't seem to make a U-turn like the other guy.

These days the only safe driver on the road is me, LOL!!!

I try to get out early and run my errands before the rest of the world gets up and heads for the drive-in window at Dunkin'.

I have noticed a new trend in my city where the young folks pause and then run through stop signs and traffic lights on a regular basis. I guess it's just not cool to wait your turn anymore.

These days it seems like people pick and choose the laws that they obey based on the odds of getting caught as opposed to doing what is legal/right.

Yes, drivers seem to be worse lately. A policeman in front of me turned right at the red light that was clearly marked "no turn on red". I think he just wasn't paying attention. I see them all the time on cell phones and speeding.
I see lots of people turn left on red if no one is coming.
A general disregard I guess.

Exactly the same here in Houston!

I thought that this was a trick question!

I live in South West London and I am convinced that
there are lots of people who think that they can drive
without a licence or insurance, probably because a
cousin is married to somebody who has a driving licence.

Seriously though, there are loads of bad drivers around here.

Mike.

its the same way here in georgia--no police arround when they do this stuff---that is why i only go out when i have to and it just a short distance

Oregon Hwy 97 is a death trap

Just two lanes, two ways…for….ever

The migrating deer and black ice is bad enough

But those who seem to have daily life threatening emergencies, giving them cause to try to pass, no matter who/what is coming the other direction, is quite common.
Creating fresh, brand new life threatening emergencies….

I've found that, when meeting these folks coming the other way, I can actually rip off the fabric of the Jeep's driver's seat with my colon

Do the same stuff here in Jacksonville, FL.. Perhaps slow up for a stop sign, but no complete stop and drive straught thru. Many people here don't like "No Right Turn" on a red light and will turn anyway. At most intersections, a driver can turn right on red light, as long as the stop first. Many don't even stop, the simply make the turn. Where there is a "No U Turn" sign, people will do a u-turn anyway. Last two things is, swerving in and out of traffic and speeding. Quite a bit of that done.

IOW, our area is NOT a Senior area and the younger generations here don't like Senior drivers who obey driving laws, like wife and I do.

Funny, when we were in northern Colorado this past July, the drivers there seemed much more caring and considerate. The area wasn't a total retirement area, but there were Senior drivers there and they were respected as drivers. Lifestyle pace there is much slower than here. We loved it.

In my state, if you enter an intersection after the yellow light has turned red, you get a $120 ticket. I know; I once got one. One experience like that would probably cure most of the red light runners.

What ever you can get a way with seems to be the motto. What stinking rules and courtesy. I've worked/traveled in poverty and drug plagued neighborhoods where red lights and no turn signs are treated as stop signs(sometimes). Then people scream do something then come the red light and speed cameras then outrage.

I was walking crossing a lane road with a 25 mph limit, no cars a quarter mile away. By the time I cross the center line a a car comes barreling down the road not slowing down until about 30 feet away then pulls up with in a foot and honk their horn. I've driven that stretch at the speed limit. No way would they should have covered the ground at 25mph that quickly. Then once I was on the sidewalk I turned towards them approached the car hoping for license plate view now going much slower sped away. Everybody's in a hurry.

I think the current biggest issue besides distracted driving is tailgating or not leaving adequate stopping distance between the car in front. Everybody's in a hurry.

Sometimes when I'm leaving the house my husband will say 'be careful out there, there's a lot of crazy people on the road!', and I'll reply that now there's one more. :playful: :drive:

What really worries me are so many who are texting while driving, their driving habits are strange, leaving over a car's length in front of them when waiting at red lights, then their heads are still down when it turns green....guess they didn't want to accidentally rear-end the guy in from of them while they were LOLing.

I've been lucky, always been able to avoid a deer crossing in front of me suddenly on the highway. Here's a video I just saw yesterday, poor deer....and drivers involved.

See the sign below? It is a lie. The friendly way...lol lol lol. OMG, I was in West Texas a couple of months ago where there is a lot of oil field work. The speed limits are 75 mph even on 2 lane roads with no shoulders. I'm driving 75. Water hauling trucks don't even stop at stop signs, big sand hauling trucks get within a couple inches away from my back bumper. Some trucks hog the entire road and the drivers get mad and flip you off as if you deliberately got on that road just to irritate them. They turn but don't signal. They throw their trash out the windows and it bounces off of whomever is behind them. I finally found a different road through an agricultural area.

I neatly solved almost all traffic problems by selling my pickup. which I liked, because I think I'm too old to continue driving. For transportation, I use the bus plus a bit of walking. I did the right thing.

I live in an area where their are many seniors, some even beyond being a senior, if that's possible. I'm a senior, but these little old ladies are older than dirt. They come out in droves to go to the grocery store. They wear a little hat over their blue hair and have white gloves. They own the biggest cars they ever sold. All you can see are two gloved hands on the steering wheel, nothing else. They are a menace. Once in the store they can't handle the shopping cart either. They all buy the same thing. One banana and a lamb chop. Please shoot me if I should become one of them.

While on my motorcycle I pulled up to a light beside a fellow on a Harley. I leaned over and told him I loved his Tee shirt and I HAD to get one. Bright yellow shirt with big black letters: HOW'D YA LIKE THAT CELL PHONE SHOVED UP YOUR ASS?
Could not agree more.

So far, the worst bad drivers I've seen are speeding. I live on a country road. It takes 7 seconds to get from coming out of a curve to my driveway. It takes many drivers 3 seconds, and several times we have come thisclose to being t-boned as we come out of our driveway. Speed limit 35, but some of our fellow country-dwellers like to go 70 or more.

Second case - someone tailgates me (in the slow lane) on the 4-lane highway. They are right up on my bumper, and stay on it when I turn onto our road. Usually it is the prison guard who lives about 1/4 mile away and who acts like his huge truck is an extension of his testicles.
