Have you ever acted (in a theatrical sense)?

That's too bad, Chic. It's a shame when young people are set up for failure, when it's something they might love if they had a bit of coaching. I have a feeling you would be a natural.

I had lead roles in a few elementary and high school productions, and a minor role in a college production, where I immensely enjoyed playing an animal character. The massive amount of time investment required prevented me from doing anything beyond that…

Yes, but I think I was terrible because we had no rehearsals. Who does that?

You are right about needing rehearsals. We had 4 full dress rehearsals. And months of practices before that. You can not really take on the part until you have the lines (or song) so well memorized that they become automatic. Our group was not funded and participants (like myself) were only marginally talented, but we made the most of it. All profits went to our 4H club.

Yes, I did perform in plays and musicals throughout high school and college, then in community theaters. I continued for several years, but when I met my husband, I decided I'd rather spend time with him instead of at almost nightly rehearsals. It was fun, and I was fortunate to get every part I auditioned for.

Some of the productions I participated in and the roles I played were:

Li'l Abner, a 1956 musical based on the comic strip by Al Capp / Stupefyin' Jones

Cactus Flower, written by Abe Burrows in 1965 / Stephanie Dickinson

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, based on the novel "The Intimate Diary of a Professional Lady," written by Anita Loos in 1925 / Dorothy Shaw

A Flea in Her Ear, written by Georges Feydeau in 1907 / Lucienne Homenides de Histanqua

Look Back in Anger, written by John Osborne in 1956 / Alison Porter

The Threepenny Opera, a musical play written by Bertolt Brecht in 1928 with music by Kurt Weil / Lucy Brown

One of my favorites.....saw it in Toronto in the late 1960s - someone out one door, someone in the other....the timing was exquisite.
That farce was a lot of fun, except for the scene where my husband came to the hotel to kill me. He chased Raymonde and me with a prop pistol that shot out a three-foot flame! 🔥🔫 When we ran, we ran for real!

Another one, with somewhat similar qualities, that I saw in Toronto in the 1970's, was Alan Ayckbourn's trilogy The Norman Conquests........someone exiting through a door in one part would be coming in through the door somewhere else in another...and it didn't matter which order you saw the individual stand alone episodes, everything fit perfectly.
