Have you ever been ‘outed/ousted’ by an online clique?

I checked AI earlier and it defined online clique as "an exclusive, tightly-knit social group that forms within a digital community, platform, or online space."

I think it's natural to gravitate toward those we agree with, but most of us recognize there are many opinions here, and try to give each other space. I hope we do anyway.

And sadly I see more of it these days where I go to church. We can't help it if a member says something inflammatory about current affairs, but when a pastor or church leader does it, that's a whole different matter. After yesterday's message, I've already got one foot out, and the other foot just needs a wee bit of a nudge before it's out as well.

Thanks, Mack... that's how I've always defined it. I knew cliques from in school... the "mean girls" who whispered and rolled eyes when an "outsider" went by... but can't figure out how it would work online. Within any group of individuals, there are going to be those with more in common, or are drawn to certain others.
 

I’m late to reply, very busy day as it’s turned out.

What my topic is mostly referring to is negative online cliques. Cliques that might maintain a goal to bully, pressure other members in a sort of peer pressure way, to conform to their little want to be popular group. These type cliques or wanna be groups online bore me and I find them negative bound. I myself chose to stay clear of them, both online, and behind the scenes with online Cliquey groups.

Otherwise the topic of course is
open to all thoughts about what my topic title may or may not mean.

A "sock puppet" is a poster's second (or third or...) screen name. The sock puppet claims to be an entirely different person, but only exists to support the original poster or to help attack another poster that the original poster is attacking.

The sock puppet is usually pretty obvious or eventually gives himself/herself away with a mistake.

Agreed. Yes, to avoiding negative people and negativity in general, wherever possible.

Thanks, I learned some internet slang I wasn't familiar with.
 
I had someone get huffy with me in this senior forum because he did not like my response to something. I said nothing out of the way; he just didn't like my response. I thought about leaving this senior forum because I felt insulted, but I didn't. I just chose to block him. I have had no problems since.

I've never experienced any of this thank goodness. Just the occasional troll.
Of course, this is the only forum I've joined. 🤷🏼‍♀️
