Have You Ever Been Left Home Alone or Anywhere Else?

I was left alone in funeral parlours every time we'd have someone dying. I wrote a short story about it, called 4 Funerals and A Wedding. I'll have to blog it up again, next year!

Besides that trying time, after my sibling's wedding, I went to bed as usual, summer vacations were here, no school. I was looking forward to our day and weekend trips. Nope, I woke up with my cat to an already-made bed, my parents. I knew right-there-and-then that something was up!

Boy, was it ever... Did my usual morning routine and coming back found a letter on dining room table. Long-story-short, my parents had taken off for 2 weeks, during the summer of 69. I watched the moon landing. Ordered pizza, a new thing back in my corner, had TV dinners, gosh miss those!

Took cycling rounds with kitty in basket. Kept to myself and survived said fortnight... I guess all these experiences prepared me for what I'm facing today. Now, your turn, please?

Currently watching "Home Alone" films series. So my question is: "Have you ever been left home alone or anywhere else?"

Mom went back to work when I was seven so I became a latch key kid at that age. My grandmother owned the house we lived in so she was always there and I never felt entirely alone, but one time some boys from my school cornered me alone in our garage and began to assault me. Nana came running out with a rolling pin in her hand and chased them away. I'd rather not think of this. 😖

Hiya, my paternal grandmother had her penny on and her Rollin pin in her hands, according to my Papa, she chased the boys who bothered her girls around the park. LOL!

Boys at my primary the first few years used to attack us with snowballs one-time too many the winter of 67-68. We told them to stop once, twice, third time we got fed up. We aimed to grab their legs, turned them upside down and shoved them headfirst into the snow banks. The head nun was out on porch trying to find out whom had broken the windows again. She took us in, me and my two friends, congratulate us, gave us hot cocoa and called their parents. They were expelled and then transferred to the security school, which I believe you call juvie detention? It was fun as we never suffered another snowball incident ever in our educational years.

Sorry to hear you were attacked that's not right. Believe in yourself that they've suffered major karma. Blessed be!

I was born and raised in Scotland. WE were left alone loads.. even at 2 years old I was left alone to go and play outside in the road.. ( we had no garden) .. and I know I was 2 because I was abducted.. I've told this story a long time ago on here.. but even when I was eventually found, did it stop my parents leaving me playing outside without them or leaving me alone ?.. No!!

This is one of my favorite stories of being left alone. It is Bill Cosby ( when he was a nice man ) and is hilarious.

Yes, heard that one, my favourite is the dentist and Chocolate cake for breakfast. Sad really what happened to him, but got to pay for sins of if that nature. I knew him as "Ghost Dad", the Jello pudding guy and Fat Albert...

Played outside as well in the space between two houses. It was dangerous as lorries backed up constantly between 7am & 5pm delivering goods to a store similar to Grace Brothers from "Are you being served" and was told... "Until 7pm then inside for dinner or door will be locked."

Not knowing time yet, didn't even had a watch, I missed those deadlines often. One time spent the evening in a cardboard box... Yup, always knew Mother hated me😭😭😭

Yep we were told to ask a stranger the time... Beggars belief now doesn't it ?

I remember my first beating from my father. I was told to be home for 5pm.. I was late..by the time I found someone to ask it was later than 5pm... he beat the beejezus out of me.. 4 years old !!

Without looking to see where you live...Your use of the phrase fortnight , immediately identified you as a Brit. JimB. In Totonto.

Canadians also say fortnight.. at least the ones I know...:D
Yeah all those people who came here to Canada from China, South America and Africa say that all the time. Not. It is a phrase that is unknown to people who grew up speaking a language other than English. JImB.

When I was very young, there was a brief time both of my parents worked. They must have needed money very badly for both of them to work and they didn't hire a baby sitter. My mom's job was a nurse at a hospital about 20 miles away. She'd leave around 1pm. My dad got home about 3:30pm. For that time I was left alone. I usually watched TV and remember Art Linkletter's shows "House Party" and "People are Funny". There were also more game shows on afternoon TV back then.

I was referring to English speaking Canadians.. how would I even think an African or Eastern European would have the word Fortnight in their Vocabulary..
