Have you ever been mugged? Or nearby when someone else was? i.e when someone was physically confronting you for something you have.

Editing to add: Did you fight back or resist when confronted?

Yes, I have been assaulted. When I first started transitioning from Male To Female I went to a club and afterwards was walking back to my car. I was dressed as a women and was confronted by this man who knocked me to the ground and started kicking me and verbally abusing me and he took my purse that I had with me. He then fled. This was before the cell phones that we have today and the ones out then were those huge things. So I got up and went back into the club where the owner called the police. My purse was found with all the cash gone, but the credit card I had was still there and so was everything else. They never found the guy who assaulted me.

No but almost. Once, years ago when my car was being repaired, I walked to the grocery store which is only a few blocks away to buy some food. My arms were laden with two bundles when I suddenly heard footsteps behind me and felt the presence of someone there very close to me. I whipped round and stood confronting a guy who took off running up the street like he was on fire. I'm glad I confronted him because he might have stolen my groceries and hurt me in the process if I hadn't. He was up to no good for sure. I still remember his face to this day in detail. I didn't report the incident because I wasn't hurt and no blood, no foul.

No. I have it firmly parked in my brain that if it ever happens, I will give the person whatever possessions of mine he wants (except for the dog, who isn't actually a possession, except by law).

If it went further than that, I would fight like a rabid animal.

Yes. By a HUGE black man (a stranger from behind) in front of my toddler children. People all around and no one helped or called the police. He kicked me repeatedly and stomped on my face and chest several times. He hurt me pretty bad. I had no opportunity to fight back.
and, when my Son, age 3 1/2 years old, grabbed his leg and tried to punch him in the knee, he kicked him across the floor about ten feet!
This was inside a store.
I still don't know why this was done. But, he was a giant!

I've been mugged for money three times. It was a bad neighborhood (high crime) that I lived in. He grabbed my purse and ran. I tried to run after him because it was my favorite purse. Anyhow he was faster than me.

The other two times I was threatened with weapons-a gun and a brick-for the money I had. I started to push the guy with the gun and he punched me in the face breaking my glasses made of glass into my face. He ran off. The same man killed an older man about a week later.

Then the third guy robbed my friend who I was walking home with and held a brick up aimed at us. My friend told the man that I didn't have anything and then threw all the change in his pocket down for the man. We got the heck out of there.

I have never faces being mugged.

My late brother-in-law commented once that he had only been mugged twice. So much for living in NYC.

One evening a date and I were walking to the garage where we parked the car in NY after a show and dinner. Being a seasoned New Yorker at the time I was always prepared, so when along came two young hooded dudes toward I us, I reached into my purse and was ready. The minute one guy advanced toward me with his hand out, I pepper sprayed him in the eyes and he dropped the knife he was carrying. The other one started yelling for help from the police, of all things. I dropped the pepper spray container in a sewer opening and we continued on. Only in NY, folks.

Yes, Living on Lower East Side of NYC in late 1960's. Teens had this strategic moves of one running past bumping into woman on whichever side she was carrying her purse, just enough to cause some consternation, and some of them would even say 'sorry' as if it was an accident, but 2-3 seconds later before you fully composed self, a second one would come by and snag your purse strap (which often was jostled off your should by the earlier 'collision'.

This time they were in for a surprise, i hung on, without leaning into it--kept my center of gravity well over my feet. Meanwhile the young thief got to point where he was leaning with upper body almost perpendicular to the ground, that's when i took a step toward him. The sudden slack in purse strap caused him to lose balance, and he had to let go to keep from face planting on sidewalk. Got up and ran. i heard laughter from onlookers, as i shouted after him that it might we wiser to try that in neighborhoods where the stolen goods would be more worth risks.

"A huge black man."
It wouldn't have been so bad if he was white, huh?

Not exactly a mugging....but strange.
A friend & I were browsing at a newsstand one evening.
A guy approached us & said, "Hey, man, can you give me a few bucks?"
My friend said, "No."
The guy said, "Good, you'll be the one I rob."
My friend (who carried a gun with him concealed) said, "No you won't 'cuz I'll blow your head off."
The guy stared at us for a few seconds, while I backed away to avoid being.....splattered, then walked off.

You know what? I KNEW someone would say that!
I was describing him. He was big, extremely tall and black! This was his description.
That was a cruel comment from you.
The truth only hurts when it should.

That's a very cruel remark, Win, the lady was merely discribing her attacker. The police would surely of asked for his discription surely .....including colour.
You don't get it because you don't want to get it.
Gaer wasn't describing her attacker to the police where it would be necessary to describe her attacker; she was posting on a forum.
Big difference.

There's a pretty good reason you knew someone would say that.
You knew how your post would make you look.
And it did.

Absolute correct with that statement, Win, but that does not give you the right to disrespect a member. Gaer did NOT insult anybody (like you did to her), she just told us the facts. If you don't want to read what she or anyone else posts, fine, read other threads.
As for me, I did GET what the lady posted, clearly, and I also understand that you chose to disagree with her in a most insulting manner.

One fellow tried with my wife & I about 10 years ago went out to eat. On the way back to the car One dude tried to grab my wife's purse, she had her hand in it & I had my hand in my pocket. When he took the purse out came a handgun in my wife's hand. He got bug-eyed & took off running. We both have CCP permits & been through all the police training.

I guess looking at the front end of a 380 ACP auto got his attention. I had my hand on my 9 mm but didn't have to pull it out.
