Have you ever had a mystery noise?
For over a year, we have had a noise in our Focus that drove us to distraction. It sounded like a rattle coming from the air vents on the dash. The faster we drove, the louder the noise became. The garage checked it during inspection, but found nothing. Some talk about “something caught in the squirrel cage”, but no solution. I had presented it as a “rear burner” type problem, so I scratched my head with them, and let it go. Recently, Inspection time rolled around again & I moved it to the “front burner”. Well this time they found the problem.
Overhead, between the front seats there are two compartments. One for the garage door opener (which I do not use), and one for a pair of sun-glasses (which I do use). I keep a clip-on pair of sun-glasses in a hard plastic case above me. Now the driver heard the noise from his right side and the passenger heard the noise from his left side…. So they removed the sun-glasses….and the mystery noise was gone. The case and clip-ons were vibrating and causing the noise!
A less reputable mechanic could have charged me for a new fan or an expensive “fix”, but I have an honest guy, who services our cars.
Now we are just scratching our head finding it hard to believe….but very pleased!
