Have you ever had bad neighbours who caused you angst...

Not me, but my parents lived across the street from a "gentleman" who was retired from the military. My mother befriended him because she wasn't working during the day. He and his wife used to go out to dinner with my parents. He loved to gossip with her about the neighbors, but I sensed that something was not right with him.

Later in their relationship, he would bring his wife over to their house for dinner. They would both get drunk and he would drag her out of their house by her hair. He told another neighbor he would "cut her head off and throw it in the canal".

I told him to quit socializing with my mother, and that started the war. He used to soak their car with his hose when they pulled out of the driveway. One night, I got a call saying my father was in the hospital. My parents were returning from dinner and he soaked their car again. My mother confronted him and he beat my father about the face.

I was not living with my parents anymore, but I came over one day when they were gone to wash my car. I was with my partner. This drunk maniac crossed the street and started to taunt us, saying "you can just go to hell ****ing each other". My partner held him off. I went inside to call the police and get my parents' gun. I told him if he came any closer I would blow his head off. The police came and ushered him back into his house.

He died of colon cancer, with a colostomy bag, many years ago. Good riddance. Sorry if this is heavy, but he was the Neighbor from Hell.

..this woman is clearly out of her mind, and I'm not sure I'd be responsible for my actions if I had her living next to me and speaking to anyone like this..,.
She sounds like a racist piece of white trash, I'd definitely have an issue if I had to live next to someone like that. My neighbor has periwinkles that overgrow onto my driveway, and when I feel like it, I trim them by hand. The bi**h in that video doesn't have a problem with her grass or weeds, she has a problem with the neighbor's ethnicity and skin color. If that neighbor lady went around those trees to trim the grass she's complaining about, she would likely physically attack her.

Wow, that's pretty intense, horrible that he beat your father and was that hateful and nasty. I'm thankful to have never had a neighbor like that.

Precisely this ... ^^^

I had one who lived above me in a flat, in an old Victorian
building, with no soundproofing, everything was fine till he
put laminate wood flooring on his lounge floor, I was then
living inside a drum, they never took off their shoes and they
walked heavily across the room, probably to annoy me, I even
offered to buy the soft slippers, he wouldn't accept them if I
did.

All he ever said was that this was one of the drawbacks of living
in a flat, there were other things that he did that were not nice
and never did I get an apology.

Mike.

I was reading somewhere, that its supposed to be against the law now to have non-carpetted floors in flats...don't know how true that is..

Do you still live in that flat Mike?

It would easy to walk over there and yell, oh you can threaten me but I can't threaten you, you flabby POS while throwing her stuff around. However, the woman of a different ethnicity would get little empathy from the cops no doubt. Living well is the best revenge.

I live way out in the country, it has always been peaceful and quiet......until a few years ago when new people moved in across the road from my property, they've covered the front of their property with flags and signs of extreme political views...twice they've had gatherings in the middle of the road with cars blocking traffic...

Too bad there isn’t a way to check out the neighbours prior to buying a house. You’re investing so much money and time into a new home, it’s sad when you end up beside someone like this.

I don't know about the law here in England hollydolly, but it
is in Scotland.

There are so many very old places, that flat I was in was built
in the 1890s, it is cheaper in many cases to demolish them and
build a new block, bigger with more flats in it.

No I don't live there any more, I am now in a little private estate
specially built for older people, ground floor, with gardeners and
a call system for emergency.

It is very nice.

My parents always went around and met neighbors before buying a house. I thought they were just being ridiculously friendly but now I realize they were being sensibly cautious.
With so many scammers and thieves nowadays, if someone knocked on my door to get to know me, I’d be leery. Doubt that I’d chat with them. When people arrive with a realtor and start chatting while outside, I’m willing to talk. I’m summing them up too.

My problem neighbor was actually quite patient and polite. He's the only neighbor I recall having who was mad at me because the kids ran across his yard to get to the other street (he had a corner lot). None of the kids listened to me (there were sidewalks), including my own, unless I was standing outside and caught them. It was embarrassing, because the neighbor was right. I used to get stressed over that because it was *his lawn* and he took impeccable care of it. He and his wife also had no kids, and no kids ever visited him, so he really didn't understand why I could not control the kids 100% of the time.

The only trouble was, the kids weren't all mine! The neighborhood had tons of kids on two little dead end streets. Four baby girls were born there the month I had my daughter. That was amazing, to have this little subdivision full of pregnant women. The elementary school kids got together and formed 2 baseball teams so they could play in the cul-de-sac. My collie liked being the umpire. When the smallest kids got off base or generally roamed around, he would herd them back to where they should be, while the other kids were yelling at the littles.

And the gossipy neighbor called the police on me for allowing my children to play outside in an area where foxes could get them. The kids were 10 and 11. I could see them from my deck. They were playing baseball in the cul-de-sac with the other kids. The only foxes in the neighborhood that we all knew about lived in the gossipy neighbor's yard. All the kids were so upset when the police came, and sent a runner to get me. The policeman told me that he was required to talk to me, nothing was wrong, and he knew who had made the call because they'd had trouble with her before. She must have used her landline. I asked if the caller was Mrs. Gossip and he said he couldn't say, but he winked and did a little nod.

I confronted her and she lied about it, of course. So I told her I was going to get a court order to force the police to tell me who called. It was not out of concern for my kids, believe me. I didn't do that, I just said it to scare her.

Yeah, I thought she sounded exactly like a Karen. I am glad my name isn't Karen, and I wish whoever had come up with that had figured out a better way to refer to these people.

If I buy a house, I plan to do that, and to stalk the neighborhood at various times and days/nights to see what happens there.

We lived next door to neighbors who had their 4 young adult children in their 20s living with them. The parents went out of town every May, and their kids had an extremely loud party. It was just one party a year, so we didn't mind. They stayed in the house, and the loudness was from the music. But I never want to live near anyone who has a lot of loud parties. I like quiet, friendly neighborhoods, like the one I live in now. Actually, if kids are making noise (it's usually laughter), I like that, too.

I had lots of trouble with my next-door neighbors.
But they stopped bothering me after I left this bundle of trash on their doorstep:
Finish and Set Him Free on the World !!
