How do you (did you) deal with them? Have any irrational fears turned into full blown phobias?
Writing them down sounds good....Hearing yourself describe what is scaring you helps. So talking to someone about them is good. So is writing them out on paper.
Change the thinking and eliminate the poisons. How do you (did you) deal with them? Have any irrational fears turned into full blown phobias?
Nothing big deal... except spiders. LOL. Thank you my friend for caring. I was more curious about skills in general, or opening an opportunity for others to discuss.. I'm okay. What kinds of fears are you talking about, RR? Economic, political, neighborhood crime, health, spiders, relationship issues? Maybe if you give us a general topic we can give more specific advice.
@Gary O' , I always thought you and Mrs. O were so brave. I would become so afraid of fire up there, that it would become irrational.... it would affect my every move, I think.I nursed a bit of angst while living in the mountains...re; wind storms, trees falling, fire
But, came to a resolve
Whatever happens, happens
Now, snakes?!
I can be irrational
(shudder)
We just killed a coral snake last week, they are beautiful...just keep a good "hoe" by the front door. If we walk around the drive and ever see one (not many, but we do have 'em) we go back, get the hoe and if its still there, we separate the head from the the body. Hey, hawks and coons gotta eat too you know...lol.I nursed a bit of angst while living in the mountains...re; wind storms, trees falling, fire

Have you tried going to a woman dentist? Some fears can't be avoided. I have a fear of dentists. What do I do when I have a toothache? The fear doesn't go away. I've talked about it, written it down on paper, taken a support person with me, told the dentist, and all that's ever happened is that I've been made fun of. So I just shut my mouth (till I get to the dentist) and be terrified while I'm there.
I guess that's an example of facing your fears? It's not easy though. I need to go now, and I've been putting it off for weeks.
I've been told the fear of dentists comes from the unnatural state of having someone put their hands into your mouth, losing control and so forth. Evidently dentists know this and its part of their schooling to recognize this issue so they know how to seek to make the person comfortable and also don't just learn to think so many people hate them. It is a known condition and you are among a lot of people whether they tell you or not.@Liberty actually, I have. She gave me a happy tooth slobber thingie that goes around your neck. It really didn't help.
Oh, I love that!mentally "wrap" the thought in brown butcher paper and mentally throw it over a big waterfall.
For me, it's not so much the dentist, but pain the dentist causes. Yet, I've found that today's dentistry is much different than when I was younger Get a funny dentist, if you can laugh, it's miraculous how easy it becomes. Make that appointment, Grammie....before anything gets worse. Some fears can't be avoided. I have a fear of dentists. What do I do when I have a toothache? The fear doesn't go away. Yeah, used to try to rehabilitate the thought, then remembered what daddy said "don't ever try to teach a pig to sing, or you'll just waste your time and annoy the pig", so I just found an effective way to toss it out.Oh, I love that!
