Have you ever had Poison Ivy?

I have never had it but I remember my Mom using baking soda paste, also baking soda or oatmeal baths. That might cut down the itching.

I know that I have been in contact with it, but I have never reacted to it at all. Apparently 10 to 15% of people are immune to it.

My dad and I are immune. Poor mom is not immune at all; I think she can get it by looking at it. Hope you're better soon @Robert59 ! Know it's miserable.

My dad and I are immune.
For the longest time I thought I was. Even intentionally handled it, no reaction.

Then one day when I was about 50 I got into some and had an awful reaction. Really painful rashes... Stayed away ever since.

Either the immunity went away, or the one I reacted to was somehow different.

Yup, and poison oak.. and now been fighting blisters from wild parsnip for the last 5 years, which makes poison ivy and oak look like a walk in the park... be careful of all those poison weeds, and another to be worried about not getting tangled into is the stinging nettle weed... that's wicked if you get it...

Not only is poison ivy/oak terrible, I've had poison sumac.

Is sumac worse than poison ivy?

Skin contact with the oil of a poison sumac plant leads to an itchy, burning allergic skin reaction. Poison sumac is considered more allergenic than both poison ivy and poison oak. sumac.jpg
