A couple of decades ago, I was turned on to doing studies by my (future) DIL. There were agencies that paid $25 per visit and they didn't take much time. Sometimes when we showed up, they had enough people and we'd get paid anyway. Then my brother found out about doing studies for GlaxoSmithKline testing dental product efficacies. My sister and I signed up and were called quite regularly. Once my husband even went. During most of the studies we had to be there several hours but it was cool because we'd read, watch T.V., play games and just have conversations. We had long lunches with free food and drinks from their cafeteria which had pretty good food. Sometimes we even had time to go shopping. If we stayed in, it was peaceful just sitting there looking out at their lovely grounds.
There was a group from Jersey City that joined us periodically. People in our group (I called them my "study buddies") were from different towns. One year I made $6,000. While we were there, a couple of our study buddies told us about other studies. One was a sleep study in NYC paying $5,000 for an overnight stay. Despite the money, I didn't want to do that one; others felt the same. We knew being called by GSK had to end eventually but it was nice while it lasted. Have you ever done studies?
