Have you ever square danced?

Yes when I was about 14 or 15. Another teen organized the place to dance at a local fire station. The firemen helped by getting a caller that knew all the twists & turns of various steps. As I remember it began with few people participating but soon grew to a lot of adults & teens having a great time . Haven't danced since then but do remember that as being really fun.

I learned it from a great uncle and aunt that played Cherokee fiddle and called square dances. I liked the fiddle playing, but not the calling or dancing. The nearest thing I used to do to it, is tribal dancing at pow wow. I am not really a country line dancing fan either. The older I get, the less I like dancing. :D

Generally I don't care for structured dancing, but got invited to go square dancing in my 40's, so I went. It was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be, especially at the beginner's level. Nobody takes anything seriously, and you get to dance with a lot of partners.
After that, I tried Polka, Swing Dancing, and Ballroom. It's all fun if you're adventurous.

At the Senior Center a couple of years ago, I joined their social square dancing class. Did it weekly for several months. Learned about 40 or so calls (I think there's like 75 calls). But people liked to push and shove you in the right place if you weren't where you needed to be, believe me. I got a little tired of it and moved on.

Did a lot of it in my youth. We lived in the phoenix area and there were a number of active clubs with great callers. My mother hauled us to all the dances untill I moved away in college. The drummer for a famous rock band also attended a club for singles…
