Have you ever started a thread just to argue?

I see from time to time posts that only seem to have one goal, just to get a debate going and then "stir the pot". Is there wisdom in doing so?

No, not intentionally anyway, but I've sure seen it done. Some people just like to debate. That's fine. You learn things that way if it's not carried too far, and starts to get repetitive because everyone has to have the last word.

I think some people do it just to draw people out, and find out who's willing to support them publicly, and who's not. Make everyone take "sides," so to speak. I guess it's a status symbol or ego trip kind of thing. Who knows. ;) May be similar to people who are obsessed with collecting "Likes" (on Facebook and forums?)

My husband loves to debate, He was on a forum called Theology Online for a few years, where they love it . I call it arguing so I steer away from it. I'm not any good at it maybe if I was, I might..LOL, but no, I haven't.

I just wondered. I won't run if an argument comes my way but just to start one for no good reason seems odd.

Never. But I have not been here long.:bigwink::peace:

I do not enjoy arguing. I have my opinions and never feel the need to defend them.

Exactly. I don't know why some people can't just let it go.

I don't see a need to argue, I know I'm right. :)

I do get frustrated when someone does not understand or acknowledge my point, I see that as my inability to express myself clearly.

It doesn't bother me if they understand what I'm saying and choose to disagree or express a different view, that's life.

I can't say that I haven't thought that it might be something to do, to try and test the waters... so to speak. I just don't like to make enemies, not sure it would be worth it.:love_heart:

No, never have. I am sure it happened when we had the politics forum here. But I try hard not to participate in discussions that are hot topics.

Nada

There’s enough controversy
Enough unrest
Enough ugliness
In this world
To start something just to start something has yet to prove wise

Those that’ve been in conflict know what I’m saying

I love debates and have started such a thread, but I have found most cannot debate intellectually without letting emotions become involved. I reframe from starting such threads these days, but I do indulge when I come across such a thread.
