Have you ever tried to cancel something on the phone

I have tried 3 times since October 25th to cancel 2 newspaper subscriptions. I have waited for a long time and finally got a person who talked with a heavy dialect and read from a script. All of these folks promised to take care of the cancellation and get me a credit on my credit card. Still no credit!!

Years ago, I got a letter addressed to "Mike" and my name. The letter was from a Master Card bank. "Mike" had good credit, and was offered a pre-approved credit card. The problem was there was no human "Mike" living at my address. The only "Mike" was my cat. And I know he didn't use credit cards; he was strictly cash and carry cat.

Trying to cancel anything on the phone is like running a marathon of pain. Service plans are like the roach motel; easy to check into, but almost impossible to leave. Extended wait times on line are the norm, then eventually perhaps after multiple transfers you’ll struggle to converse with an operator having a foreign, ethnic, or sub-audible voice. These are the times which try men’s souls…. 😫

What aggravates me is when they put me on hold. My C.P. will drop out after 30 minutes of no conversation & just music on the other end. Someone will just pick up at the other end & say a few words then click it's gone.

Or they said I'll put you on hold & then instead of hold it goes back to the first time you called into the robots & you go through everything again, then up comes a message your "wait time" in 32 minutes. I had already waited X amount of time.

These people are not actually listening to us. They are reading scripts and repeat themselves over and over. Accents are inarticulate and some of them sound like robots. But you have to be nice or they hang up I found. I got very good service from american airlines and Medicare. It is chance. The newbies do not know much

As far as I'm concerned, Customer Service, as we knew it, doesn't exist anymore ...... calls go automatically to people that are scripted to give us the hardest time possible! ... Plus the fact that you can't understand what they are saying anyway.

You know before you make that phone call, that you are about to waste 2 hours of your life!

That is really frustrating. I sympathize a lot because my mom's bank is still after several years trying to refund my mom a hundred dollars (I think ordered by some class-action court case they lost) but they will only put the check in her name. I send them to my brother because he was the executor but he just tells me he doesn't have that bank account anymore (whatever that means). He doesn't care about the money because he has enough of his own, but I keep getting reminders from the bank about the uncashed check and I'm so frustrated I can't get my half.
What happens is that they "freeze" the bank account so I can no longer access it and they wait until Social Security reclaims their payment. It is my understanding that it remains locked until they close it so I cannot deposit the insurance check into it. Very frustrating.

It is all overand yes well before the pandemic but that excuse is being used
I worked for a HEALTH insurance company ..... spent all day attaching documentation to files to do this sort of thing ...... they sent in death certificates to cancel policy and stop payments ........................................... but our system OFTEN took out auto payments for 3-6 months before having to go back in to reimburse the estate. (Part of the reason i would not want auto payments to some of these companies)
It was complete INCOMPETENCE nothing too hard

I could have updated files as soon as i attached document and made notes regarding customer is DEAD............
but that was another groups job.............. worthless group spent more days planning potlucks then DOING their job
Yes, it is the ridiculous, inefficient corporate structure. I worked for such a company. They had 9/80's where everyone worked their 80 hours in 9 days, so they had every other Friday off. (They really didn't work their 80 hours in 9 days.) Nothing could be accomplished on Fridays because half the staff was out. So glad to be out of that company.

I thought it was inefficient then, but now workers are leaving jobs and writing their own rules due to Covid. I think it will only become worse.

absolutely!
although some people may have some obstacles to overcome................... this is far along enough in pandemic to quit using it as an excuse for not doing their job or putting everything in super slow motion.
Many companies have found work around not expect everyone to just wait pay double and smile at the "new normal"
