Have you ever used either of the following (statements)..& for what?🤔

I don't think I've ever seen Y I M B Y. Aren't people always against instead for? Anyway, I don't use them.

I have seen MYOB. Mind your own business but I don't use it either.

I really dislike the explosion of acronym use these days .... easier perhaps when texting but i just refuse to engage in using them.
worked in a few different industries and they used same acronym but had total different meaning.....
a co-worker was big on using acronyms ..........i did not respond to her and when she asked why i showed her the several meanings a acronym meant........... told her since i had no idea what she meant ... so no response ... cured her of it quickly.

NIMBY is a fairly common acronym. Yes, I've used it. Never heard of YIMBY.
I read that one recently in a column about the homeless problem ( or should I say the unhoused?) anyway it was sad because all the local government's ideas about projects to help them met with the NIMBY answer.

Two that started with the real estate market.

FOMO Fear Of Missing Out referring to people who pay too much just to get a home.

JOMO Joy Of Missing Out used by those who did not go crazy last year and buy a home at the inflated prices.

both have now branched out to wider use.

I speak English; not mumble Jumble!

With so many immigrants coming to Canada these days, I seldom hear English in the grocery stores anymore. So, you might say that hearing English takes me back to my childhood days.

Saw the "Y" on a newsy topic..it must be new..
As I hadn't heard it before either.

True story from years ago.

There were floods in a little town near me called Spencerville so they organized a group to help the people in distress. The group formed was called...

The Spencerville Homeowners In Trouble Committee. I read the newspaper article and the writer kept saying The S.H.I.T. Committee did this... and the S.H.I.T. Committee did that.

It was a riot!

Also in Canada years ago the Conservative Party was trying to unite with the Reform Party to unify the right.

At the Convention, the new Party name they all came up with was "The Conservative Reform Alliance Party".

Well, everyone was all smug and happy until somebody pointed out that the acronym was actually "C.R.A.P."

 Ahh, you can't make this stuff up, folks!

Speaking of not being able to make stuff up...I saw a campaign slogan for a politician a few years back (forgot what he was running for). His name was the nickname for Richard and if I posted the button here (yes, they had the nerve to put the slogan on a button!!) it would probably be deleted because it bordered on obscene. Ya have to wonder, what genius thought of that one?! 😲

I’d never heard of this before until yesterday when I read this:

For me this is about NIMBY vs Ghetto. For those who live in safe, pleasant neighbourhoods it;s heaven. For those who don’t the dangerous and deprived neighbourhood becomes their prison.

Ann Landers would often tell advice-seekers to MYOB (Mind Your Own Business). I liked that one as there are plenty of people willing and eager to make your business theirs. I’ve heard of the two abbreviations cited, but rarely see them in print…

N I M B Y...( Not In My Back Yard)
Or
Y I M B Y...(Yes In My Back Yard)

How Did it work out?🤗
No, I don't use them. I've used BYOB... and I use WTH and WTF, only because using the whole F word is frowned upon. It gets the message across. Other than that I use actual words.

I hear and use acronyms regularly. They're such common shorthand that we tend to forget we're speaking in initials rather than words.

How clunky our speech would be if we didn't use: CIA, POW, MIA, UN, NASA, NATO, ASAP, AWOL, SWAT, DMV, AA, COVID, AIDS, DOA, ADD, ADHD, and many, many more.
