Have you found any real advantages to joining AARP?

I trust you all know that AARP is just a marketing organization and not something where you have a real (voting) membership.

Being an AARP member, I get a 5% discount on my phone service, Consumer Cellular. The amount I save on my phone bill slightly outweighs the cost of membership so I remain a member.

I admit it, I have a thing about AARP. It is self proclaimed "advocacy group", whatever that is. But no member attends monthly/yearly meetings, there are no member 'steerage' groups, there are no member conferences, no conventions, no member input, no voting for officials, not even an online questionnaire, so exactly what is AARP "advocating for, except as a vehicle to sell over 50 life insurance, and The Hartford's interests?
