Have you had any animal encounters?

A couple of days ago, my neighbor bought a big bag of candy for the kids on Halloween. For some reason, he left it on his deck, while he went inside. When he came back out, the deer had eaten all his chocolatey nut bars, and a deer was making off with his big bag of Cheetos. I've had a bear demolish my trash can. It's amazing how thoroughly they go through trash- they don't miss one fragment of food. I had a mouse casually walk through my living room, and my three cats just sat there, and watched him.
Have you had any animal encounters?

One morning this summer I went out back early to do something and strange loud noises stopped me dead. There were two very large hawks fighting over something, one flew off and the other flew up onto a low tree limb and stared at me. While they aren't rare out in the countryside here I've never seen them like this so close to people.

We had a hawk fly onto our condo balcony, after the pigeons. Yep, right here in the city.

Recently, well early 2000s, had three deers in my garden, munching on my lovely batch of curly lettuce. I've left them to much in peace.

Encountered a racoon while visiting a large park and had near fatal encounter with a skunk.

Scariest encounters in 60s and 70s, two water snakes grabbed onto my fishing rod on separate occasions. Never found out if they were dangerous, ran out of there like "The Flash".

Fed countless red and grey squirrels in another park with their two favourite treats, peanuts and miniature marshmallows. They were fearless them squirrels as (too bad the one and only picture got destroyed after Mother's death) they're sitting all over me by their nut tree, it was special...

Deer in my yard all the time, spent the summer eating most of my flowers. Armadillo too, rooting up my iris bulbs. A possum on a regular visit, which my old dog hates, so I often find it "sleeping" and well slobbered. Twice I have come face to face with coyotes and stared them down. Several varieties of snakes wander through looking for a meal, which keeps the mice down. Pretty much a daily zoo here.

No encounter with a Sasquatch.

But with plenty of others. Black bears (Ursus americanus), bobcat, white-tail deer, mule deer, coyote, ravens, great-horned owl, raccoons, marmots, several kinds of snakes. I've seen four cougars when I was driving a car, one very close... and a sizable herd of big-horn sheep on the road just in front of me (in a car that time, too).

When I lived in Germany I'd see a lot of nature. My favorites were the Boars. I'd only see them when it was dark, and you had to careful. They'd be crossing the road with their little ones. The picture doesn't really show them for what they are - if you hit one of these in a car, I'd be more worried for the vehicle. They're huge, and big balls of muscle. And they're not in any hurry either. If you see them crossing the road, you stop, and wait!

Oh, and I feed a family of foxes every evening. When I say feed them, I know where they walk, and I leave two raw eggs each and every day. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of them, but mostly not. The eggs are always gone though. :)

Armadillo! How exotic.

Here? Only with my kitty. Daily.

Wait! Occasionally I'll go outside with my coffee before daylight and see three or four deer wandering around in the flower garden.

When we lived in the UP of Michigan, we'd often see bears in town or a deer or two on the main street. Once when MIL was expected on a flight, the plane had to be diverted to a town 100 miles away because a herd of deer wouldn't get off the runway.

Lots. The cabin was mostly empty until I moved here so the animals had become comfortable. I have been within 5 feet of deer stomping its foot at me, bobcat who came around the corner of the house and didn't see me and a pack of dogs, one of which stopped at the end of the porch and stared at me. I have a picture of a bear I did not see laying in the brush and watching me. Only noticed him in the picture I had taken. Have heard coyotes run through at night and an owl who posed for me. Many more.

(I have started having problems uploading pictures, getting a message that says "upload failed because it was only partially completed". Not sure what that means. Any advice on it would be appreciated.

Hmm...I forgot about mooses. Meece. From time to time they'd be in the road and slow, really slow. We just had to wait until they decided to amble along. Poor things. They're so ugly that their mothers probably have a hard time loving them once they're grown. Baby meece are sorta cute.

Out in the country there were lots of "Deer Crossing" and "Bear Crossing" signs. I have no idea why because the deer and bears couldn't read so wouldn't bother walking up to the designated crossing areas before walking to the other side.

Oh, the reminds me of a walk my wife and I had in Florida. It was around a lake with people walking their dogs etc. We turned into a little bend with some overgrowth, and then stopped in panic: There was a huge (to my eyes) Crocodile (or Alligator, I wasn't checking) standing there in the middle of the path. We decided to move, very quickly, back the way we'd come. :D

I just have the usual Muntjac's..foxes, pheasants , badgers, etc... we do get a lt of Red Kutes, and Hawks.. particularly Sparrow hawks that attack the wood Pigeons and Collared Doves...

the only bears we have here are accompanied by little red riding hood..
Muntjacs?

Sounds like you see a variety of beautiful birds. I''m unfamiliar Red Kutes, Wood Pigeons & Collard Doves.I've seen pheasants when visiting Northern California countryside. Fox I've only seen way north (Whitehorse, Yukon). Badgers I've never seen except in nature documentaries.
