The Sticks, Northeast PA.
I had to bring the car in for servicing. There was one of those shouting show on the TV, with fighting families and friends. One woman had two ex-husband's and two boy friends at the time of conception of her son. She was getting child support from one of the boyfriends, who thought he was the father. Turns out the kid's DNA did not match any of the supposed 4 fathers. I know this happens, but have you really known people in this situation?

Unfortunately, there are people ( mostly youngsters) who are confused and hungry for companionship. and one day wake up and wonder how they got where they are. There ARE counselors. and city resources available to many who qualify but getting sucked into THAT whole system is a problem ( of sorts) in and of itself.
On a side note todays "need" to have a TV on as a distraction looks like a permanent fixture but most TVs are tuned into shouting matches or quiz shows or Judge Judy stuff is just an annoyance. I use a laundromat and it had that Storage Wars on. I couldn't focus on my phone ( which I use to pass time while the laundry cycles)
However I remember a time when many places just had MUSAK playing through ceiling speakers. I miss those days

No, I've never know people like that in real life.
 
I've only heard of such. I was more a fan of Donahue and Maury Povich when he went through 46 DNA tests and still didn't find the father....what absolutely debasing shows.
 
I worked with a woman who was on Jerry Springer. True story. Some kind of 'he cheated on me' thing. Everyone at work knew. This was years ago.

So sadly, yes. I also worked with some other's. I'd hear something along the lines of 'he kicked in my door, the cops came...' I also worked with a treasure who ended up on the county's 10 most wanted in the paper. When she found out she grabbed the papers and ran out of work. Yup, that'll stop it from getting around. Apparently, from what I heard she had her boyfriend of the month staying in her apartment running the AC so low she couldn't pay the bill and tried to pass a bad check at the casino.

Another co-worker's son was shot and killed. The guy who shot him was let go. Self defense. She was a nice woman but from what I could tell, her kids were wild.

Another woman's husband was shot, lived, his brother, shot and died during some late night altercation. Everyone at work who knew her was freaking out instead of doing their jobs.
 
I remember in my teens a girl of the same age came into my work place , and she told me how she had a break down when the boy she was going out with got her in the family way and then didnt want anything to do with her , she went through treatment and was living with the grandmother of her expected child ,and Brother of the father of the child .
The Brother then fell for her and was going to marry her and bring the child up as his own ..
She didnt stay long and I wondered what the future was going to turn out for her .
 
Well, when I was teaching, families had to fill out the usual forms. Iā€™d give the forms the once-over before passing them on to the office.Canā€™t tell you how many families had three or four kiddos with three or four different last names. One year I had a student who got a new ā€œstepfatherā€ every other month. So sad.
 
Does remind me of someone I once knew. A guy I hired temporarily to help with manual labor, paid him cash and never knew his last name.

Went to his trailer to pay him one morning, just after I got there he took a call and very quickly got visibly angry. He started shouting things into the phone like "that is the stupidest f*cking thing I've ever heard" and "you stupid sl*t". After a few similar things he slammed the phone down, looked at me and said "my G*d damned daughter is pregnant again".

Never met the girl, and after that had no desire to. He died of a drug overdose a few months later. Have to say he was a good honest worker... felt bad when he died.

that reminds me of when we bought our plot of land , ready to build the bungalow hubby designed, and there was a French couple in the garden a far way upā€¦.
he was on the phone and god , did he swear ā€¦that was in English , the rest was in French which we didnā€™t understand , I had my 3 yr old Grandaughter with us , I was holding her earsā€¦.so she couldnā€™t hear ā€¦..
my god what was we letting ourselves intoā€¦ā€¦
but found out he was the ladies ex husband , and never saw much of him after that ā€¦.
