Have you learnt to forgive yourself?

As we move through life, we sometimes hurt those nearest to us. We do not do this with intent. But a frivolous comment, made in the heat of the moment can have us remembering the hurt inflicted on a loved one.
These moments may haunt us till our last days if we have not learnt to forgive ourselves.
The weird thing about human nature is that we readily forgive those who may have wronged us but we beat ourselves up over what we may have said to someone decades ago.
Maybe we do not forgive our sins of the past because in doing so, we actually let go of the past.
For some that may be a scary prospect. What do we have to grasp onto if not our past memories, be they pleasant or unpleasant?
Take them away and we are left with an empty shell, full of cracks and frailties.
We may feel like a ship adrift with no mooring post to tether us to
Remember, all our past achievements, all we have done, we done to the best of our abilities, at that time.
A retort? At the time, it was justified.
When we do what we do, many, many times we do not know the ramifications of our actions. But we do them, because at the time, our very essence said that is what was required.
Learn to forgive yourself and move forward to the next great adventure.

Excellent post and advice. And a very healthy thing to do in the Sr. Years, letting things go. It isn’t easy. Being a Capricorn, I have a tendency to over think, over analyze. Mentally replay bits and pieces.
I keep reminding myself of something that old hippie Richard Alpert aka Baba Ram Das advocated. : “Be Here Now.” Which I take to mean stay focused on the present and stop wallowing around ing the past.

Well written, Bretrick!

Have i forgiven myself?
For what? I relish my flaws. I am an unrepentant sinner! haha!
I have always tried not to hurt another soul.
I will always give up my happiness than hurt another.
The things others do to hurt me are because I don't have full
understanding of why they need to do that.; why they are hurting inside.
Yes, These "ramifications " rebound from unfathomable places and times.
We can only try not to incur more hate and disharmony from now on.

I agree it is difficult to LET GO sometimes.........
i am shedding the last of my items that need to be let go of.....
I have found items that bothered me.. thinking i offended or something ..................are not sometimes even remembered by the other person ..... sometimes they did not see things like i assumed they did.
The reverse has happened as well,......... where someone was upset about something that i never even considered would be taken wrong.

I'm not perfect but I "ain't done nothin' wrong" so there is no reason to forgive myself. Always been just a fun loving country boy. There's nothing wrong with that! The bible says "Be sure your sin will find you out" or something like that but I'm not worried. My sins, if there are any, are pretty small.
