Have you or would you buy one of those TV exercise machines?

If you are ever awake at 5 AM, you seen those TV ads for those exercise machines. Ya know, you don't have to go to the gym anymore. You'll loose weight, get fit, etc., etc. Have you or would you buy one of those TV exercise machines?

I would buy one of those that turn you upside down.

If I was contemplating suicide. Garages are full of exercise machines gathering dust.

Get a a dog instead and take him for a walk every day and eat like he does.

Fads. They last for a while. You can see them at second hand stores. Loaded with bread machines and exercise gimmicks.

Absolutely NOT! Have never seen a Senior on one of those, so what would that tell anyone?

I see a variety of those machines in new condition at the local charity shops for pennies on the dollar.

I agree with Camper save your money and go for a walk, scrub the floor, mow the lawn, etc...

And shake it, sing it now!
Get up offa that thing,
And shake it..." -

I would not purchase the machines shown on TV --- they're put together with a bit of glue and wire. If I could spend the money, I would buy a machine that is used at the health club I go to. But they're $15,000+. Membership is far less expensive...

I wouldn't buy a machine and I can't scrub floors either. I will just have to remain overweight and under-exercised. Lol.

Yrs ago,I bought a treadmill on QVC which I used to help me lose weight ,it helped
In 2004 I had partial right knee surgery. My surgeon told me that was the worst equipment for the knees,so I stopped using it
I did buy an exercise fan bike similar to the one I used at rehab for my knee.I had it for 5 yrs until it started to fall apart
When I can't go outside to take my walks because of weather,I have a small pedal device I use to exercise my legs

I knew a couple who bought a home treadmill because they were too busy to go to a gym. Turned into an $800 clothes rack. Then I noticed one time when I visited that it was gone & they didn't want to talk about it.

My son bought us a treadmill. I used it occasionally in the winter. I found that my balance isn't that great so I can't read while walking. Then I tried buying some videos that are suppose to make you think you are walking on a path in the woods or wherever you would like to walk. It was pretty neat at first. People pause to say hello or get out of your way to let you pass. Even had the sounds of birds. I quickly got bored with that also. Taking a walk outside is much better and recently I learned that if you hold on as you walk on a treadmill you diminish the benefits greatly.

I am considering a stationary bike which might help my sore knees.

I just can't get into exercise. I know it's good for you. But it seems like wasted energy. Instead of running in place, you should be outside running. Instead of doing some dopey arm exercise 100 times, swing a hammer and use that 100 times to build something. Use that expended effort to make something. Now, of course, I didn't exercise. nor did I make anything either. I did buy a set of weights years ago. I used to cart them from underneath my bed from apartment to apartment. Never used 'em.

I wouldn't buy an exercise machine without trying it out first. I have a treadmill and I DO use it. The trick for me is to put it in front of the TV and find something I'm interested in watching while I'm using it. Same with my exercise bike when I had one. I'd like to get another one.

Years ago, when these "BowFlex" ads were all over the TV, I found a device called "BandFlex" which was basically the same....just uses rubber tension bands, instead of tension rods...and was less than half the price of the BowFlex. I keep it in the basement, and use it mostly during the colder Winter months when my normal outdoor activity is limited. It has dozens of exercises, and can simulate almost anything one might do at a traditional gym. I am a firm believer in exercise as being one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy as we get older....and so far, so good.

No way, I worked as a Physical Therapist for almost 40 years and around workout equipment and know what is quality equipment and what is not. 99% of the equipment that is being sold on TV like that is junk. The quality equipment can be bought at either a reputable fitness retailer or a reputable fitness retail catalog that you can get from your medical provider or Physical Therapist.

After all our children got grown and gone, I bought a few pieces of exercise equipment... treadmill, pilates, stationary bike, etc. and set up an "exercise room." I didn't buy any of it from TV but I did order the bike from Amazon. The most exercise I get from it is that I walk faster going past that door so I don't have to look in there and feel guilty.

Hahaha good one...

We have a good elliptical machine (not an "as seen on TV" model) that I sometimes use when I want to walk and the weather is foul. I'm told it's easier on your joints than a treadmill.

I find any form of structured exercise like this to be extremely BORING.

:yawning:

I'd be very careful buying one of those machines. Many of them cost a lot and can be defective and then you have to send them back and that's a major pain. I often want to get the ones I see on tv but at this point in time don't have the funds for that. I'd really rather go to a fitness center. :)
