Have you picked up a completely new skill after retirement?

I'm wondering if you've done something that you've never really done before after retiring. If you have I'd also love to hear about how you went about picking up the skill and getting better at it.

The reason I ask is that there are several things I'm thinking I'd like to do after retiring and since I'm a few years out from doing that I'd like to do any groundwork I might need to do now.

A couple of the ideas I have are either learning how to be a recording engineer and the other is to be a band manager. I'd really like to help new and emerging bands be more successful or be able to make more money. I wouldn't mind doing the work without compensation and just know that I'm helping them get their music out to people and achieve at least some of their dreams.

I started taking Spanish lessons online at Duolingo. Been at it a little over a year. Just for fun. I took Spanish in high school and basically learned zilch. This is much more enjoyable and I'm surprised at how much I have learned.

I learned how to carve with both hand tools and power tools , learned how to turn wood and acrylic on a lathe, how to sharpen chisels, learned how to paint with acrylics, learned how to play a Bb musical instrument and am learning computer software which I never thought I’d use.

I have learned how to manage my money better.
I bought a sewing machine and learned how to sew. Kind of nice to be able to hem a new pair of pants or alter them to make a pair of shorts just the right length.
Also made shade curtains for the bedroom. It does help for sleeping or napping in the afternoon.

Only one??? How about the mid-morning quickie.

Are we counting the Barcalounger naps while we're supposedly watching TV? Or are we only counting the bed naps? How about when you lean back in your office chair while you're waiting for something to load and you.drop.off.for.a.couple.of.minutes?

Count all of them, and I'm up to an even dozen easy.....

I have enjoyed Gardening since I retired. I come from a family of farmers, but never had any place in our city yards to put in a decent garden. When we moved to the woods, I plowed up about 7 or 8 hundred sq. ft. and started growing things. These fresh "organic" vegetables beat anything sold at the stores, and I usually have so much excess that I have plenty to give to the kids and the Senior home in town.

I have learned how to do family tree research on Ancestry and do this almost daily.
I have learned how to ask for help and not be embarrassed that I need the help.
I have learned to adapt to living downtown in a city after spending years of my life in the country and many times very rural.
Most of all, I have learned to never give up. There is always a way.
