Have you received an inheritance when your Parents/Grandparents passed away?

I wouldn’t have if not for my youngest brother.

My father decided, as a godly fellow, he had to remarry in order to be with a woman after my mother died. That was fine with me. Of course he picked a woman from Jamaica he met at church who drained all his accounts and then sent him packing.

But then his crazy, eccentric brother died who never could or did work a day in his life but pinched the bejeebers out of every penny he ever saw and yet left my father more than a hundred grand. When he moved back in with her and my father died soon thereafter my youngest brother got a lawyer and took her to court. For him it was the principle and he didn’t like that my father had simply ignored my mother’s wishes after he remarried.

I told him he should keep anything he could get as he had to fly to Southern California multiple times. But he insisted on splitting the judgement he won with his sibs and I ended up getting about ten thousand after his costs. Good for him but I never resented my father’s actions or even the desperation of his second wife which drove her to take advantage of people.

I have some friends who received some sizable inheritances after their parents passed but the largest inheritance I know personally of was a woman I was dating when I was around fifty. Her dad had already passed but her mom passed while we were dating, she being an only child all assets went to her, just under 6.5 million total.

I probably should have married her.
