Have you saved any love letters?

In olden times, they were a way of showing affection over long distances. Now, they would have to be short because they would probably be texted.
It was always exciting when you'd get a letter or card in the mail. I always looked forward to seeing the mailman. Those days are gone for the most part.

I am glad that Grampa Don started this thread.

ms gamboolgal and I have them somewhere. Our Daughter read some of the ones I wrote to her Mother when we were dating and after we had married. To say that I was under ms gamboolgals spell is an understatement - ha ! While it was abit embarrassing, I think it was good for her to get a glimpse of our "young" love for each other.

Before we married, one summer I was living with a widowed Aunt in Buffalo, Texas while I was Roughnecking for Delta Drilling Company and ms gamboolgal was back home. We would write each other daily. My first name is Edward and hers is Elizabeth
I would address my letters to Queen Elizabeth and the return from King Edward... ha ! ms gamboolgals Daddy would go to the Post Office daily to get their mail and of course my letters to his daughter and he and the folks at the Post Office got a big kick about the kids writing love letters to each other.

In fact, my Avatar picture is from summer of 1979 and that is ms gamboolgal sat on my lap when I had just drove in from the Rig for Days Off. Seems just the blink of an eye ago. I can feel the hot East Texas summer sun and remember how good she felt and smelled sitting on my knee from just looking at that picture.

Young love and love is strong stuff - thank goodness ! And now after almost 44 year married, still under ms gamboolgal's spell - I think that I need to write afew love letters to ms gamboolgal. Be interesting for our Daughter and Granddaughter to one day read of when we were young and looking forward to living our lives together vs now looking back and forward from this point.

That's so sweet!

I am so sorry...for some reason I'm doing something wrong (and I don't know what) but my replies end up in some people's posts. I tried to delete it and couldn't get it too. I guess I'll have to figure that out.
In the meantime, what I was saying was that whether or not you read your wifes diaries or notes, I would think it would be comforting just knowing you have them. I don't want to read my husbands cards and notes because it would depress me. Maybe down the line I might, but it's way too soon. Having said that, it's comforting to know his sweet words are in those cards and notes.
click on the reply button on the post that you want to quote, it will post in a new box.... the repy part will be slightly shaded.. type underneath that to prevent typing within the quoted post
