I watched two Good Films Saturday
I was able to stream both of these films from my I Phone or I Pad to my TV and then watched "THE REVENANT" & "AMAZING GRACE" back to back. Four hours of really great filming. American History fans will particularly enjoy Amazing Grace as it deals with 18th century slavery trade and one English Parlimentarian's efforts to abolish it.

The REVENANT won Leonardo DiCaprio a Academy Award Oscar.

I have seen Amazing Grace which brought home to me how difficult it is to remove something bad from the statutes when it is profitable for the wealthier classes who wield political power. Vested interests create social inertia even today.

William Wilberforce is one of my heroes for his enduring commitment to abolishing the slave trade for the English and I found it interesting that in the end it was done through a back door piece of legislation.

The Revenant was incredible...

...and Leo continues to impress and amaze me with his acting chops. Just a pretty face 20 years ago in "Titanic" and boy, has he perfected his craft. When I looked up his first major film role and rented "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," I actually thought he WAS mentally challenged. His scenes with Jack Nicholson in "The Departed," the look on his face in the last scene of "Shutter Island" before he's led away, his perfect South African dialect (a hard one to master) in "Blood Diamond," his eerie resemblance to Howard Hughes in "The Aviator," and really, any role he takes on is excellent and a privilege to watch -- well EXCEPT for one glaring exception but that's only because I hated the story in "Inception." I'm glad he finally got his Oscar.
