Have you started a new hobby since you've retired. Not one from your pre-retirement years.

A 1841 diesel switch engine ? I think that is a typo because a google search says the first diesel electric locomotive was built in 1918. I think it should read "1941 ". Right ? JimB.
OOPS LOL. It was 1941

Now that I've retired I've finally started taking online jazz piano lessons with a teacher on the other side of the country. It's really been a major stress reliever. It keeps my mind sharp and creative juices flowing. Loving it.
Are you new to playing the piano or is this an extension of what you already know?

Interestingly, I just messaged my friend for hobby ideas! I have MS, which makes it difficult to use my hands/fingers in an intricate way. Also, my vision is not great though I read a ton on my tablet. Any ideas? I am pretty much housebound as well. :)
Cooking. There are many gadgets to help with food prep.

Art. I suggest a good set of pastels. Or ask a clerk at an art supply to help with a medium and paper. Or clay.

Start a collection. Display it in a unique manner.

Is this your teacher?

I've taken up miniature dioramas. Not really enjoying it that much but I keep hearing we're supposed to have hobbies, yawn. And when I've told people what my real hobby is--consuming information, i.e., reading--I've always gotten rolled eyes. So the miniature dioramas, sigh.
I did the same a few years ago and still have several unfinished projects. I loved learning and experimenting with new ways to do things. My first diorama was not small. In fact I modelled everything from scratch except the trees, cars and people. I especially loved doing surgery on some of the plastic figures so I could get the pose I wanted show. I like making some comical relief. Here is an example...

Police Farce: The diorama is a scale model of Wardell Bridge, with cars crossing over it. A police car conked out on the way over, causing a traffic jam. One of the four police is steering the car, another directing the traffic, and two others are pushing the car.

I just expanded the time with hobbies I had before I retired. Playing the guitar, building model airplanes...those coupled with the added time I have for fooling around on the internet, my time is filled nicely!

Nicely Done !! A bit off topic, but is it true that in Australia, cops can demand a breath sample of a driver without having any reasons to do so ? If that is true, I'd love to see that happen here in Canada, too. JIMB In Toronto.
