Have your alcohol drinking habits changed over the years?

I did wake up one morning and my lungs had collapsed. That ruins your whole day and many more afterward.
I know this is a side issue (or maybe not), but I'm interested in knowing what made them collapse?

I was a world class drinker. I'd stop across the street from the factory and get a 1/2 pint of Jack Daniels for the ride home. Then a pint of Jack Daniels from the liquor store in the shopping mall near my house. Every day.

Then I ran into the rear end of another car. That was the first time it occurred to me that I could hurt someone besides myself.

That was October 20, 2002. I haven't had another drop since.

I'll be sober 23 years this October.

When working and from 22-38 I'd close bars often. Then for about 12 years, I hardly had any alcohol. Now last year I won a good amount and bought several bottles of hard liquor.

I find I enjoy vodka more with various additions (Mainly Mt. Dew or orange juice) than any whiskey. However, Jack Daniel's Triple Mash and Crown Royal is good.

So I limit intake though as funds are limited also.

I never clearly understood why they collapsed and I have had no problems since. I just woke up in the morning and had no strength. The doctor came to my house (they did in those days) and I was shipped to the hospital. They put a drain tube into my chest and I slowly recovered. That was in 1960.

"Had no strength," and losing it fast got me to the hospital, where they found I had blood clots in my lungs. A few people asked me if it was painful, but it wasn't. I just didn't have the strength to walk from my car to the emergency room. I got two cars past my own, and called the emergency room. They came and got me with a wheel chair.

Nope not much change, living and working around drinkers was enough to convince me that there were better things to waste my time & money on. Younger brother was a drinker and drug user, just recently diagnosed with dementia. Blame it on his choices. An occasional beer, that stopped altogether when children entered the picture. Wife & oldest daughter do like their wine time.

I have not drunk or ingested alcohol in years. This is not because I disapprove of it, but because I feel sick when I have an alcoholic drink or food prepared with alcohol. I want to feel well, as well as I can everyday so alcohol had to go. I never really drank much at all but did enjoy cooking with wine. I gave that up too and feel a lot better for it, but I miss food cooked with wine. It was delicious.
