"He knows his ABC's & numbers. He's three." How things have changed.

I'm 73. And, at times, I really feel that I was born in the last century. My friend said that her son was enrolled in "pre- school". "He knows his ABC's & numbers. He's three." When I was a kid, I met my ABCs when I was in the first grade. We didn't even have Sesame Street, then. There was no "pre-school". My friend says her son loves "pre-school". I don't think, at age three, pre-school is some form of torture, but it seems to be a benchmark on how much the world has changed. How much education is needed for the future.

And yet, when they graduate, they still can't make change for $1.
Nowadays we have machines that do most of our thinking. My mother only went to school a few years, but she could do calculations faster in her mind than I could do with a calculator.
